1. He came swaying, an elegant man
Warbling, asking from the glances, perceptive

2. The sway of his body as if its delicacy
Is pure water, and his heart like purity

3. He charms the gazelle with his cheek and his glance
And the branch grants him graceful leaning

4. Oh his kindness! How can I find refuge in his kindness
If only you would learn from him to show kindness

5. Pampered behind the pigeons and their cooing
The promise of union, brother of life yet he broke it

6. He is Joseph sentencing his Jacob
Unjustly, so it would be just if you lamented

7. Seek healing for a lover whom love has made ill
Who spends night and day in passionate longing for you

8. Leave off disdain, for I cannot bear more
Than the fervent love I already have, and it suffices

9. Oh you who glanced at my heart fleetingly
And met my waist with your waist repeatedly

10. The moles are but dots, the nun on your cheek
Yet my heart in its love interpreted them enthusiastically

11. As did your bashfulness, for the moles on your cheek
Wrote letters on the mirror of your face

12. A blossom that has a life from life
That you pluck from the fire of shyness, bundled

13. So excuse my weakness, for I have been afflicted by love for you
And loving you was my former and latter folly

14. I tossed sleeplessly as the victorious king spent the night sleepless
From the high ground looking out for enemies

15. He whose striving has found him the Messiah of the Exalted
For wealth, since his hands created it only to destroy it

16. Aided by resolve from which no weakness can be claimed
And an opinion from which no folly can be claimed

17. So to God belongs forgiveness, sounder than our hopes
A body that was delicate and feet that walked gently

18. You were gentle as the fresh water in its course
And described wellsprings that give life if they flow

19. From his night talk the fresh water in its course is depleted
And described are my wellsprings of comfort like purity

20. In peace it is water, and in war it is fire
Death woven into life there cleverly

21. From his palm a sea and from his sword hilt a blaze
To God - however did they come together!

22. Do not deny the shuddering of every deaf spear
That flowed, making its state easier to shudder

23. As too the shivering of every sharp rage
In his hands, undone by the blows and made slender

24. The outcome of this: their skulls will be made to fly
And the goal of that: their bodies made to crumble

25. Do not forget our dread and descent of its cliff
While the atmosphere wore the mask and was covered

26. For leaning on it one day, soaking it with their blood
Not like winter - and it was a summer day

27. I witnessed him and so witnessed that he
Is a king and a beast - neither hosting nor hosted

28. It was not feeble fleeing or withdrawing
In him, but harsher and more skilled

29. They stood firm as the mountains of Tihama stood firm
Until it carried them - so who can withstand pausing?

30. How many concerns in war that left him
Bereft with ruin on open ground

31. And afflictions that the wind of havoc blew away
I faced, preventing them from wreaking havoc

32. Behind the mighty King Yusuf, Yusuf
And behind you, mighty one of Egypt, Yusuf

33. So the sun and the shining full moon succeeded them
Star of guidance - and no deficiency dims a star

34. Warrior of the word of scripture, his sword
Inspires awe and justice - we are confident no fear

35. Why would religion fear spuriousness after
The sword befriended it and the scripture?

36. How much proposal came to me, yet I refused
And prevented its imposing onset from oveturning affairs

37. You are the illuminator, and I am saying
We both envy what is pursued and emulated

38. So delight an innocent maiden, easiest of proposals
Not of a cure that comes forth and chisels

39. The calamity came to you turbulent, and the best
Eulogy is that which met the skull turbulent

40. She was led to the most high king, her leading
The king of meanings, gentleness, and refinement

41. A full moon so there is no nonsense
Of eclipse dimming a sun and God protected it from darkening
