1. I stood at the grave of the dear Ibn Yusuf
Like a young man standing at a sweet spring

2. I did not do justice to his kindness and softness
Or his cheerfulness and intimacy

3. Peace on the lowly world after him
Its events deafen and its pleasures make one dizzy

4. If I had a heart, sorrow would have prevented me
From the heart, but I remained without a heart

5. And my elegy settled after its long fervor
Upon the generous, granting, and elegy-inspiring knight

6. My certainty that death is the destination of creation
And that demise is the place of non-Arabs and Arabs
