1. I descended from the peninsula to a halt,
A happiness that nothing compares accumulates,
١. ولقد نزلتُ من الجزيرة منزلاً
شملُ السرور بمثله يتجمَّعُ
2. The soil's skirts were blown by the breeze's tails,
And musk permeates from its plains.
٢. خضل الثرى نديتْ ذيول نسيمه
فالمسك من أردانه يتضوَّع
3. The branches danced on its axis,
It has a leg there and hearing.
٣. رقصتْ على دولابه أغصانه
فلها به ساقٍ هناك ومسمع
4. And the Nile's flood, melting highlight,
Sings to the country, so its people do not despair,
٤. والمدُّ مدُّ النيل ذائبُ عسجدٍ
يغني البلاد فأهلها لاتخشع
5. It does not harm it, though the sky is its forehead,
Frowning, and its eyes do not blink.
٥. ما ضرَّها إنَّ السَّماءَ جبينها
جهمٌ وإنَّ عيونها لا تهمع
6. It becomes shields with spears in the morning,
And remains what settled as swords that gleam.
٦. يمسي دروعاً بالصَّبا موضونةً
ويظلُّ ما سكنتْ سيوفاً تلمع

Winter descended on it, and its branches are green clothes,
٧. نزل الشتاءُ بها وهيفُ غصونها
خضرُ الملابسِ والحمائم تسجع
8. And doves are cooing.
It took off the garb of its springtime from the world,
٨. خلعتْ عن الدنيا ثيابَ ربيعها
في مثلهِ وعلى ثراها تخلع
9. In its like, and on its land it takes off.
٩. وبها لآفواه الآقاحي معْ أزا
هرها حديثٌ بالمناخر يسمع
10. And it has for the slender mouths along with its decoration
Talk with nostrils that listens-
١٠. والعيد قد وافى وليس لمثله
إلا بمثل ربوعها مستمتع
11. And the feast has arrived, and nothing compares
To its meadows being enjoyed for its like.
١١. فادعُ المشوقَ إليك أوَّل مرَّة
ولك الآمانُ بأنه لا يرجع
12. So invite the yearned to you the first time,
And you will be safe that he will not return.
١٢. ولقد شقيت بوصل خودك ليلة
طالت فكان ظلامها لا ينفدُ
13.
And I have suffered from your love one night,
١٣. سوداء حالكة تلقَّبُ وردةً
وعجيبة الأيام ورد أسود
