1. Harut's eyes shone bright in Babylon
He shot his arrows at us in battle

2. Defending his glances with his eyelids
Never did I see an eyelid withstand daggers

3. His beauty is beyond all description
No tears from eyes entreat him

4. He confronted me when I was lovesick
Binding me by his temple with chains

5. Without the full moon there'd be no
Wandering between our ribs and dwellings

6. Visiting, traversing constellations
And dark temples and trailing clouds

7. My tears blame only the lightning of life
Yearning for the coolness of springs

8. I crave him while he is my killer
If not for passion I'd not crave a killer

9. I am bereft of reason in the madness of love
Since when are gazelles ensnared?

10. If my sleep did not die awaking his breast
My tears would not single out the sleepy

11. I clung to him intoxicated with youth
Shaking ripe fruit off the vine

12. If not for seeking war his cheek
Would lack a mole or that headband

13. I desire him while he is hostile
If not for love I'd not desire a hostile

14. Peerless in passion and youthfulness
Except Ali's son in nobility and grace

15. When his words pour forth chaotically
Only leaning minds comprehend them

16. They move like stars in every land
Safe from their own defects

17. If his writings march against a rebel song
Their meaning is dawn and twilight

18. He embarrasses faces of refusal
Repelling forward the early centuries

19. Freeing fate's blow at the desired time
Repelling evil decreed misfortunes

20. His eloquent letters, had they come before
Would have crowned the rulers' heads

21. His writings humble every naked sword
Sweet yet potent against the mighty

22. Eyes wish to take on the dye of his ink
Even the hearts of the noble envy them

23. As if brown Indian swords melted
To take the shape of his meanings

24. Detailed verses sent down in sequences
No wonder their miraculous nature

25. When his black letters are revealed
They are brides ushered to minds

26. His prose and poetry were not composed
Except by a sayer or a composer

27. When asked "Is there a sayer or abode?"
He spurs his steed down the range

28. Amazingly he pines and melts
Though not all who pine melt for him

29. Did his lines against any dissenter
Emerge from prose or ranks of soldiers?

30. Battle steeds bowed to his might
What steeds bowed, what likeness?

31. Yours but in battle, where you hurl
Spears at enemies looming aloft

32. Harboring gentleness like tall dunes
Annexed with every soft lam

33. His prose is nothing but a shore
For a sea, each sea with a shore

34. Given his wonders you'd think him
A brother sea with snapping waves

35. Had that sea wished with blowing gales
It could not match his blowing gales

36. He is the virtuous, hoped for, attainer
When a people lack virtue or grace

37. Ignore any harsh judge in Ukaz and its sisters
And what's between their forums

38. However you extol none but him
The lands pour heavy rainfalls

39. By Allah, what goodness his mother bore
And carried in her palms

40. His people but gatherings' chests
If proud, they are tribes' heads

41. Merciful angels in warriors' cores
Lions of misery on foe backs

42. They supported every scribe's rules
And deemed every debater's dreams nonsense

43. If an infant of theirs concealed his name
His manner exposed his lineage

44. Bestowers of wealth from Mudar's throngs
Dragging the train of nomads' mounts

45. As the red hill camels approached, pregnant
With the rain hand in auspicious years

46. The noble, lofty, brilliant came
Humbling all who revere and mount

47. Sweeter than dreaming in a wakeful lid
And nearer than a visiting beloved

48. If pebbles understood his talks
His camps' talks would be understood

49. Kindly, lofty, guiding aright
Bitter battle, sweet intimacies

50. Your tenderness, O Abdul Rahim, complaining
Shaking a shining sword's edge

51. May God give you sufficiency, ensure you
And make sweet the life of an ardent, enthusiastic pilgrim

52. I fear most, while you are the sword and the time is fertile
I forbid, while you are the flood of misfortunes

53. I am deprived of your bounty, even intercession
Which brings no hero targeted by floods

54. The years have taken from me, and my need
Tossed between past and future

55. The wise preserves his habit
Fruit of the few days of life

56. Be steadfast, listen not to detractors
I am fit for the sublime and virtuous

57. Bay horses, shy white ones, alluring dark ones
Chestnut Short-tailed birds, auspicious gray ones
