1. My beloveds, stand still and contemplate
What remains of the agony of separation and dissolution

2. And a body staying after patience has journeyed
By the oath of binding, sincerity with the settled rancor

3. The patience has straitened to bear more
.......

4. I have been afflicted with tears like changeful pearls
And a heart refusing but ardour and coquetry

5. A pauper from nightshade who does not hope for wealth
If beauty gave her the wish of the soul

6. So what is the matter of attracting estrangement and separation
.......

7. Take my tears unless you send the tradition of generosity
And my existence with an apparition, if you permit it to travel

8. And do not detain a heart destitute of patience
It strayed as the confidant wished, and I do not see

9. In your cheek a meadow, or in your mouth a water-spring
.......

10. You have weakened a man who, were it not for your eyelids, would not have weakened
And betrayed a lover who did not betray in love

11. Generous with a soul he did not guard except your secret
And you blamed me for the sin of tears, yet there was no sin

12. In the first teardrop or bloodshed for which he longed
.......

13. May God water the ruins of the encampment as a playground
And enliven those plains and knolls

14. Nights in which the ship of separation did not sail
You turned away from the era of passion and youth

15. And it is the practice of moons to move
.......

16. You escaped with a soul safe from my passion
And naturally turned away from honourable covenants

17. And I am not one who claims to move propriety
And you inclined to the slanderers, blameless

18. And who can prevent the branches from swaying
.......

19. The Najdi lightning bolted, had it been more ardent
It would have remembered the perfumes of ‘Uqayq and renewed them

20. And had it not been for the atmosphere, I would not have asked it for dew
Perhaps the contours of life would echo the reverberation

21. And no spark flashed in my core to kindle
.......

22. He is the praised outstripping in every stance
Whenever he raced in the expanse of a desert

23. Pouring upon it every cool folded breeze
Speaking of the generosity of the eminent Yusuf

24. Whether he quenched or his glad tidings exulted
.......

25. You meet his rising like the rising full moon
A young man who abandoned monotheism for a tearful polytheism

26. And the water of dew in the cheek of time is delicious
We drew with it many a measure from Al-Muzain well

27. And with it we lined a tail from Al-Muzain, trailing
.......

28. He sees that a generosity reaching favours is an ascent
And accompanies it a soul ardent for glory

29. A lover to it is money and money is plunder
And it did not gather clouds and Milky Ways in vain

30. Except it came first in generosity from the abode
.......

31. It sufficed, so every praiser became his match
Thus the length of his life and tomorrow unto tomorrow

32. And his palms’ generosity enriched every possessor of a hand
So had it not been for the cessation of revelation after Muhammad

33. He would have been a prophet in munificence, commissioned
.......
