1. You have attained the rule of a magnificent king,
Not one to be described as sleepy.

2. In a house you built so much structure,
That remains while the foundation is baseless.

3. And when I saw you unyielding,
I feared estrangement and neglect.

4. So I sent you from my books, loyalty,
Like the provision Abu Nuwas once made.

5. And they said, he means the son of Yahya,
So hurry to him with Abu Faras.

6. For steeds do not stand without steeds
Among people who in truth are not people.

7. No noble lineage praises them,
They have a burden but no thoroughbred.

8. No name among them has life in battle,
And semblance is found in every head.

9. No water springs up at any time,
If it does not fear the sneeze of the sneezer.

10. No pleasure without boundary,
No wine permitted for every taster.

11. So specify and measure the meaning of my words,
For specification intercedes through analogy.
