1. They left, and their suns set,
While my heart is shaken with anxiety.

2. The lightning smiles for my fire,
And the clouds weep for my tears.

3. The rain poured down their tents,
While you dwell in comfort, O Habeeb!

4. Their clothes have become rags,
While you live in luxury, O Khabb.

5. To you I complain, O one whose
Heart's core cruelty has pierced.

6. Why are your bracelets not loose
And tight like my troubled heart?

7. Gently, wrath gave them understanding,
While their glances were wrath.

8. Enough! They have stripped my skin.
Misguidance I recite - what they stripped!

9. After them my breaths are thorns,
And my tears gushing like a flood.

10. In my soul is pain with a moustache,
For the lover, his bane is a moustache.

11. From his saliva and kisses
Like coffee and the pounding of beans.

12. They are people whose mouths wine does grace,
So why should it touch their grapes?

13. O withholder of the kissed cup,
Is your refusal due to indulgence or anger?

14. Circulating the cup of reconciliation
Is like silver blended with gold.

15. You came, and your hand was not dyed,
As if you dye yourself with it.

16. Strange, your lovers got drunk
With a glance, without drinking!

17. Is this how you honor those who submit
To your love, yet deny what they seek?

18. You possess beauty, so all who are
Yours gain beauty and acquire grace.

19. Through you they elate, just as the sun
Gives the full moon all that it radiates.

20. No tears remain for me to shed
And pour upon you, flowing.
