1. The hand of the East unsheathed the swords of dawn,
So the winged one had no wing left to don.

2. And the lids of its flags unfurled,
Dyed with the blood of wounds.

3. As if the horizon floated its flowers,
A pond of water named after rain showers.

4. So take off your veils, for the braids
Of water have been untied by the palms of the winds.

5. Stars of comfort sailed through the abodes of darkness,
Above the orbits of repose.

6. The flowers clapped as the myrtle branch swayed,
Yearning from the chirping of the winged one.

7. And our palm-leaf assembly shone at night,
The star of success sparkling in its club.

8. It strode with whiteness, swaying its five-striped,
Its shoulders scorning the height of spears.

9. With a glance, spears; with eyelashes, arrows -
It met us with all weapons.

10. I love in the curve of its eyelids
The cure of the sick and the sickness of the sincere.

11. For the ember of passion cools the thirsty,
And the strength of yearning weakens the enamored.

12. What love has its glance dragged in?
And what seriousness has its joking harvested?

13. No endeavor in the abode of darkness fails
When its soldiers bar us from dawn.

14. Nor does it lack, while the land thirsts,
The dear, sought-after downpour.
