Or dared to subdue the lion in its lair

9. No surprise that you have tormented me by keeping your distance
A sign of a soul that even intimacy cannot vanquish

10. I reminisce of days gone by, remembering them
As I used to cherish love before our separation

11. My longing stirs for your slender, graceful figure
Though the canal obscures her from my gaze

12. The lightning of your smile shines from beneath your veil
While the lightning of your cheeks would illuminate my senses

13. I traverse the darkness fearing its unknown depths
And travel the horizon taking care to avoid its shadows

14. When the stallion scatters the darkness underfoot
Her elegant gait illuminates the gloomy landscape

15. A stallion whose palms close when storms grow stingy
And whose composure calms when crises swell

16. When the rub of war whets his blade
And good fortune magnifies his glory

17. A noble, refined stallion in his prime
Of exquisite stock and noble lineage

18. Supporting victory's fluttering banner over the enemy
And resurrecting the ancient monuments of grandeur

19. With him, a garden blossoming and meadows green
Quenching hopes that once withered and faded

20. He is the meadow whose shade stretches far
The rain that nourishes barren hands

21. When appointed funds run low
The bath of generosity opens to visitors in abundance

22. And if hardship comes, through him and his sword
The world shields her honor and guards her harem

23. The grantor who matches the barren steppe with harvest
And pairs the smooth surface with plush drapes

24. As white swords gleam with blood in their wake
And lofty deeds shine like stars in a sky

25. His gifts pour like a stream though space is cramped
Objects heaped up reaching towards the horizon

26. His feast laid out while famine haunts the land
His blades dripping while horses' mouths foam

27. Generous with dew, noble in character and deed
So the twisted branches of snakes may straighten

28. His clarity and dignity lengthen his stature
While many virtues sweeten his scent

29. When darkness of worries shrouds the realm
He is its keeper, its guide and mentor

30. If you clash with the champion warriors' spears
Their souls and bodies will never survive the meeting

31. Pure of origin, his pride turns to his Creator
As the place where noble souls once lodged

32. They have reached and surpassed the peak of perfection
And fulfilled and transcended the utmost completion

33. Through them beauty entered the world, its pillars stand firm
Its meanings refined, its structures made elegant

34. They establish its channels when disorder appears
And mend its misfortunes when calamities strike

35. Who else but them could fix its crookedness?
Without their people, who could maintain it?

36. They built up its edifices, so who else could conceive them?
Will these lofty pillars crumble or will their repairer resurrect them?

37. Egypt was saved when her beloved was absent
For her protector and greatest never vanished

38. The ways of Omar were followed
As the events of the era were confronted

39. I thought it justice, the gifts he offered
As he tended to the complainers and enriched the destitute

40. He drew out the tails of clouds over its soil
Air purified, ruins rebuilt

41. So thanks to a world that you are one of its wonders
Impossible, when it produced your like, to blame it

42. An untainted ode whose virtues were never doubtful
Nor did it fall short of earning the highest praises

43. Favored, rising above the stars in rank
Destined, surpassing those who share her fate

44. She has witnessed its troubles with her beauty
And its adversaries praised her, appeased

45. She traveled, cutting through the desert, her mirage swirling
Souls inhaling her scent, poisoned to their doom

46. To the victorious king, the tumult
Lights fires in the necks of the lowly like Gehenna

47. While the Lord of Gifts, his perfume is like musk
When ingratitude hides it, decay reveals it

48. So many skies did not meet with their lightning
Or feed their clouds and rain them

49. Thinking the Most High would sanctify her station
And the Protector would shelter her in His care

50. None but you can humble the likes of her
Or honor her kingdom, your equal
