2. Have mercy on lonely souls
Life's market has weighed down, upsetting the balance

3. If I fear oblivion, my soul protests
If happiness is denied, here are my tears

4. I yearn for the past days of companionship
For their twilight and morning glow

5. Can you deny the palace its excess of desire?
For love is but burning passion and fervor

6. I wander to the past, if only it could return
And weep for the lost, if only it could come back

7. I sought lofty goals, but now
Mere promises make me content

8. Youth betrayed me, fickle as it is
While the old have their lifelong pacts

9. Without my loves, how can I have patience?
The unique pearl is always peerless

10. No wonder my reason melts away
For the beloved has settled into my heart's core

11. I used to weep from being ignored
Would that closeness and affection last

12. Alas, farewell peeled my eyelids
When the beloved left and we grew apart

13. I wish for reunion, if only
One's efforts could bring back what they desire

14. His saliva makes me thirst
Yet it tastes to me like honey

15. I got drunk, so he shunned me
But who drinks wine intentionally transgresses?

16. He is shocked by my sickness and lethargy
Yet what ails the lover but lovesickness and languor?

17. When the lost one turns his cheek
Revealing unseen beauty

18. The branch and vine have a curve and sequel
As do the moon and the gazelle, a neck and side

19. With his eyelids he shields his cheeks
With narcissi he prevents cheeks from withering

20. I have suffered from the sorrows of two passions
Each an ancient or new rival to my heart

21. More wondrous is that passions
Wage war against me, but not the Sublime

22. So beware, O fate, of crossing my path
For with the goat, how often have you contended?

23. A king whom time cannot humble
If he is steadfast and respected

24. Wealth makes him happy after giving
If he earns praise and acclaim from it

25. He desires lofty knowledge
Yet if wealth presents itself, he is ascetic

26. He unlocked talents, so the barren bear fruit
He showed us moderation, so the lost find guidance

27. He is generous, though life's supplies are lowly
His hands give openly, though the land is barren

28. He resolves knotty problems
The roads to him are well-trodden

29. He fulfills every hope of all people
None fails who hopes in his gifts

30. His boons stray not from them
His benevolence toward them has no bound

31. How can he have riches
When he could tap a brimming source?

32. A wise brother - none other is desired
To his view, all wisdom yields

33. With him, daily turmoil is resolved
He drives away enemies and fortifies borders

34. Free with generosity when rain is scarce
Dignified in patience when few show respect

35. His sword tells of his satisfactions and rages
A sword's signs are pardoning and severing

36. Its blade makes you tremble, yet its essence
Soothes you, like the hot and the cold

37. O king, my haven lies in your protection
A leopard, walking proudly in your gifts

38. So many hands you have revived
So many lifeless ones you have resurrected

39. In poverty's gloom, I came to you hoping
My quest to you goes not astray

40. Though asking may shame one
Your asking is grace and glory

41. I rode high hopes and lofty words
Yet no eyelid fluttered, no limit was reached

42. On your feast day, time treats me cruelly
Though for my Master, time is but a slave

43. You claimed me, saving me from dishonor
Your gifts pour forth, unstinting

44. How many barren souls you have quickened
How many rigid ones you have softened

45. Your resolve is firmer than any
Your view is bolder than any

46. People have wealth, but it eludes them
Leaving them confounded by your valor and aid

47. You are a father who has forbid them
Stern and serious, a seeker of glory

48. Souls, but disregarding of rights
Hands that reach not for noble aims

49. By your being with us, our abode has stature
Without tent pegs, no tent is pitched

50. O rain that watered every region
To you, Najd and Wahd are equal

51. You have made verdure the refuge of wildlife
Just as flocks feel safe only near water

52. Would that you had quenched enemies' hearts!
For all the white contains some hatred

53. Your compelling commands -
Fear and affection make them obey

54. Their souls recoil from you, O sword
Their eyes are dimmed by your light, O sun

55. You wrapped them under the rain of arrows
As horses race and lightning strikes

56. You burned them in the iron waters
They sought refuge in its treachery, which is but ice

57. It melted every heart, yet melted them
What wonder that it liquefies

58. The hardness of their livers, though itself solid?
How can one escape a death

59. That no effort can prevent?
Not out of weakness did they submit to you

60. Though they have dreadful armies and steeds
Say of their remnants, they are cinders

61. Accept their survivors, they are naked
They bowed, though spears concealed you

62. Like foxes hearing but lions roaring
But your clear right prevails

63. Never can denial conquer truth
I came to you with forbidden fruits

64. You paid generously, disdaining haggling
I strung them on the noble's brow

65. Beautifying, like pearls do a necklace
They defend you, as swords do

66. Their breath, like light, makes one blink
In dawning, they grip time's neck

67. Shaking glory's shoulder and side
When the reciters display them to you

68. They stand still, and time flows singing your praises
As if you made them your life's purpose

69. To them, nearness and distance are equal
As the meadow's breeze plays

70. And flutters through the encampment
In you, O protector, I found

71. When a man loses even his sword and dagger
For when you give, no time can counter

72. And when you withhold, no use in blaming
Whoever seeks life's glory

73. Will find none but you as their goal
I came to you in tattered robes

74. So you honored me - may your gifts endure!
