Is weary, and my teary eyes know no rest.

My eyelids' tears would not fuel the fires in my chest.

Free of the pretense of narcissists.

11. It coaxed the complaints with its gentle breeze
And tempted my imagination with a graceful gazelle.

12. It diffused its scent, drawing us near,
O honored disobedient one, and humble obedient one!

13. On many a dark night we had an appointment,
When stars cannot find their way to the horizon.

14. I met him in his ivory palace,
And shared a cup raised in his sparkling right hand.

15. I untied the knots of his robes, revealing
A gazelle whose curves the branches imitate and claim.

16. The winking star was like the frightened eye of an anxious one
Or a frightened heart, afraid of being seen.

17. I feared the gossipers, or else I would have wept
With joy at the sight of the shining lightning.

18. I pretended not to breathe in his breath,
Keeping it secret, though musk cannot disguise its scent.

19. If his enemies were to attack in their folly,
They would find him in my dwelling.

20. Alas for a bond shattered like tears
Scattered about, and a promise broken like scattered bones.

21. A band of people hoping to deceive,
Who turn away from you with unaffected hearts.

22. Similar in their crooked aims, if you stumble
Into trouble, they will wish evil upon you with their gossip.

23. They slap their foreheads as if their faces
Were poisonous snakes when shy.

24. Their clouds are greedy when it rains,
And the clouds haven't moved from where they hope to feed.

25. So to me, o noble rain clouds,
For I am a neighbor to the clouds and the hoped-for downpour.

26. Where the tail of Pisces is found, no disappointment comes,
And the dew of the defender of the faith does not diminish.

27. His visitor misses him and wants to leave him
With a lover's longing for the final resting place.

28. And the supported banners, his worries
Are always for the highest goals.

29. He governed the land and its people
With justice, like a pious guide.

30. He fears and hopes, so he is forgiving and forgiven,
Moving between one stand and the next.

31. You and the Shemariye are one kind—
The coward's fear, and the courage of the most courageous.

32. You unleashed riders and warriors until
The wolves of the wilderness and their dens were in their pastures.

33. You pardoned and forgave. Were you able to hold back
From the unlawful while returning the licit, you would pardon and refrain.

34. Wakeful, you did good while misfortunes sleep,
And blessings reached me after being withheld.

35. How many generous hands have benefited me,
Familiar with kindness, whether gathered or scattered.

36. I thank you as long as I live, and as long
As this life remains, whether you hear or not.

37. With intimate conversations the words
Mock the eloquent masters of rhyme and metre,

38. Like a torrent or night that comes without delay
To wherever its roaming encampment settles.

39. Its coolness honored many a wearer,
And its necklaces honored many a listener.

40. So relax, o composer of order and harmony,
And show off, o wearer of splendid attire.

41. If you wear a crown but do not surpass
Its uniqueness, the crown itself is no gem.

42. You are the noble house, its pillar
For the fearful, and for the greedy oppressors.

43. Noses that smell the stench and are far
From obscene talk and vulgarity.

44. Red cheeks, blue lances, green resting places, black knights—
Strike their encampments with the tips of spears, o sun of daylight, be content!

45. For none but their palms are bought,
And none but their swords will stamp their marks.

46. And marelike darknesses as if
The sun had deflected the swords like Joshua.

47. The hawks of the air hovered over their corpses
Like the thirsty over the sweetest nectar.

48. You pitched your tents above a fortress
Impenetrable by the shafts of your spears.

49. My weapon is the resolve of victory, my sanctuary is wisdom,
My banners wave, my promises are binding.

50. The enemy meets doom when you unleash devastation,
Blocking the paths of ruin with your unleashed spears,

51. With a lion’s fury whose arrows Fate has loosed,
More ferocious than the lion defending its den.

52. The deaf and your swords—choose
Whatever legs and necks you please.

53. Your father is the auspicious star, for since
He rose on the horizon, he has not erred.

54. Of glorious deeds, customary help,
Ancient steps, and high sovereignty.

55. Without him the world’s sanctuary would not be protected,
Nor the land’s valley a secure refuge.

56. You sought martyrdom openly
On the path to the final resting place.

57. You surpassed the mortal realm, so the branch is blessed—
The root departing is better than one arriving.

58. No ally has died but one like your son remains,
Like rain replacing the abundant valley.

59. You attained sovereignty as a youth, exultant,
While every aged one rushed behind you.

60. You showed me the kingdom of kings and a pasture
For hopes, in an abode whose light shines far.

61. I abandoned praise, but you insisted
Until I returned as if I never refused.

62. The world and wishes submitted to you,
So take and enjoy them!

63. May all others abandon me, for I
Apart from your loss, do not complain.
