1. O home of the fair maidens
Between Sanaa and Marib

١. يا دِيارَ الكَواعِبِ
بَينَ صَنعا فَمارِبِ

2. Good fortune smiled on you one dawn
And rain poured down in torrents

٢. جادَكِ السَعدُ غُدوَةً
وَالثُرَيّا بِصائِبِ

3. Like a defeated army in retreat
Pelted with stones

٣. مِن هَزيمٍ كَأَنَّما
يَرتَمي بِالقَواضِبِ

4. Amidst cries of joy and trilling tongues
And stamping of feet

٤. في اِصطِفاقٍ وَرَنَّةٍ
وَاِعتِراكِ المَواكِبِ

5. Home of one graced with glory
Whose ropes creak under the weight

٥. دارُ مَن زانَهُ السُمو
طُ مَعاً بِالتَرائِبِ

6. The smooth cheek of a fawn
Grazing on the tips of branches

٦. جيدُ رِئمٍ مُكَحَّلٍ
يَرتَعي بِالذَنائِبِ

7. One whose love is absent from you
Yet present like one who is absent

٧. غائِبٌ عَنكَ وُدُّهُ
شاهِدٌ مِثلُ غائِبِ

8. Perhaps in ambush or lying in wait
A bow ever ready to shoot arrows

٨. رُبَّ بيدٍ وَدونَها
ناضِبٌ أَو كَناضِبِ

9. I approached you
Protected by impenetrable armor

٩. وَذُرى قُفِّ سَبسَبٍ
لاحِقٍ بِالسَباسِبِ

10. I have with me only a sharp sword
By God, it shall defend me

١٠. قَد تَجَشَّمتُ نَحوَكُم
بِعِتاقِ النَجائِبِ

١١. ما مَعي غَيرُ صارِمٍ
لِيَ وَاللَهُ صاحِبي
