1. Talha was an ocean of virtue
With abundant springs for the needy to draw

2. And whatever you drew from this sea
Was a copious, free-flowing, bountiful flow

3. He shunned blame through good deeds and built
A legacy in the graves that confined the renowned

4. In Al-Baqi, sanctified by God, he now rests
Many a virtuous man lies in that shrine

5. Abdul Muttalib left him as an example for us
With no detractors, no dishonor accrue

6. Severe when censuring, bountiful when giving
Making misers recoil whenever their coffers withdrew

7. Valiant with the banner whenever death
Unfurled its flags and destiny spun

8. When the coward dares not advance or stand firm
Except the self-sacrificing, undaunted one

9. Predators will flee him once recognizing
Their dread of death, of lions with their roar

10. His coat of mail rang with the clang of swords
And perfume streamed on him some days before

11. He is easy on kin, like rainclouds bestow
Their blessing on land with plenteous pour

12. And rivals youth with his grey hair when
The north wind stirs in winter's rigorous core

13. When pups do not yelp, nor infants mewl
What you have given me will remain secure

14. For I am ever fraternal and grateful
And praise takes riders racing on their course

15. Urging them on, their guide against night's gloom
My poetry dispelled their drowsiness

16. With praise adorned in most splendid verse
Like my praise for your father, imprisoned, who weeps

17. While chained in shackles, that helpless prisoner
My camel raced to you from the herd—

18. The unbroken fillies, the pregnant, the barren
It traversed the plain, the valley, the spring

19. Where a crying camel folds down to rest
Drinking deep from its squabbles, without

20. Rancor or bitterness in its bequest
