1. Who chides me for longing for one
Who is generous to others, not to me,

2. On the day when people circumambulate?
The fawn-eyed beauty, surpassing in grace,

3. Sweet of speech, but harsh of deed,
Breaking his promises,

4. False in his vows - how far from faithful!
Know, O Umm 'Amr,

5. There is rest in despair,
And clarity for one who complains.

6. Fulfill your promise, else
Allow my departure and withdrawal.

7. Long has my bondage been with you, without gain -
For you, O daughter of oath-breakers!

8. I see not, Umm 'Amr, what you promised,
Though walkers have traversed the earth.

9. You have left me confounded, striking at my heart -
O excellent at torment, you archer!

10. God knows my love for you
Lies deep in the heart's core.

11. Whether you give generously or withhold, O Umm 'Amr,
You remain to me a beloved companion.

12. Yet the morning has passed with no mention of bounty
From Banu Hashim, descendants of 'Abd Manaf.

13. How many barren wilds have I crossed,
Their horrors stretching vast distances,

14. With heavily-laden she-camels, dusty and foul,
Xenophobic, flea-bitten, fly-swatting!

15. Xenophobic, warding off vermin like
Sparks in the black night darting aloft.

16. Seeking the company of the son of Ja'far,
Noble of origin among ancestors,

17. Ruddy-cheeked, complete in reason and faith,
Immaculate in dress, overflowing in munificence,

18. Steadfast in home and glory,
Of ample abode, hospitable to guests,

19. Open-handed and generous to the questioner,
Bountiful in gifts, refuge of the weak,

20. Embodiment of the refined essence of Hashim’s line,
People of munificence and chastity.

21. His nature is one of freshness in bounty,
Not of spellbound wood that breaks its vows.

22. He gifts horses, camels with their newborns, abodes -
With their trappings - and light-running creatures.

23. Such is the servant of God, ofoverflowing munificence,
Bounty, and ready aid.
