1. A messenger has come to us from the tribe of Sa'uda
How excellent is what you say to me and I say

2. Of a girl like a rising sun
Too glorious for veils or litters

3. How excellent is my night in Muzza's valley
Where the goblets passed freely round

4. I pass the night being plied with it while I have a wineskin handy
He is a boon companion to the generous

5. Allah made it lawful to the people as a drink
While the date liqueur is not made lawful

6. We have the bright-faced cows
That were guided to Ibn Qays as a gift

7. Take me to the country of Bishr now that you are alone
Since you are rid of those who blame

8. A prince whose face is radiant comes graciously to us
When we visit him, and his gifts are generous

9. Every time she traveled a mile away across the land
A mile toward us, while a mile withdrew
