تألق البرق له عشيا

1. The lightning gleamed for him in the evening,
So it leaned when the aroma of Najd filled it.

١. تَأَلَّقَ البَرقُ لَهُ عَشِيّاً
فَحَنَّ حينَ شامَهُ نَجدِيّا

2. It reminded him of nights in Hajir,
And the joys of youth turned to him happily.

٢. ذَكَّرَهُ لَيالِياً بِحاجِرٍ
وَلّى بِها عَيشُ الصِبا هَنِيّا

3. In a time when its meadows boast
Of brocade and silk fragrantly.

٣. في زَمَنٍ رِياضُهُ تَختالُ في ال
ديباجِ وَالسُندُسِ عَبقَرِيّا

4. Its flowers have shone radiantly since they bloomed
Laughing through their tears.

٤. قَد أَشرَقَت مُذ شرقَت بِمائِها
أَزهارُها ضَواحِكاً بكِيّا

5. Its light gives light to the eyes,
And its intense perfume to the noses.

٥. يُهدي إِلى العُيونِ نوراً نَورُها
وَلِلأُنوفِ الأَرَجَ المِسكِيّا

6. And for spring it brought out chemistry
Purely from its sleeves.

٦. وَلِلرَبيعِ كيمياءَ أَبرَزَ ال
إبريزَ مِن أَكمامِهِ نَقِيّا

7. The green narcissus, its emerald,
Embraced the silver in the golden one.

٧. وَالنَرجِسُ الغَضُّ زُمُرُّدِيُّهُ
في الذَهَبِيِّ عانَقَ الفِضِيّا

8. And the birds, like monks in the monasteries
Of the branches, their voice stimulates seclusion.

٨. وَالطَيرُ كَالرُهبانِ في صَوامِعِ ال
أَغصانِ يشجي صَوتُها الخَلِيّا

9. Those are shades that the passionate blamed
For misguidance, and the lover blamed for affection.

٩. تِلكَ ظِلالٌ عَذَرَ العاذِلُ في ال
ضَلالِ فيها العاشِق العُذرِيّا

10. O how much it teased the gazelles of al-Hima,
So each one went throwing and being hit!

١٠. يا طالَما غازَلَ غِزلانَ الحِمى
فَراحَ كُلٌّ رامِياً مَرمِيّا

11. And my liver from a beholder whose cheek
Is strokes in the dawn magically Babylonian!

١١. وا كَبِدي مِن شادِنٍ لِحاظُهُ
نَوافِثٌ بِالسِحرِ بابِلِيّا

12. Its shoulders complain to its sides
The complaint of the weak to the strong puller.

١٢. تَشكو إِلى أَردافِهِ أَعطافُهُ
شَكوى الضَعيفِ جاذَبَ القَوِيّا
