1. Whenever longing spurs me on, O my she-camel,
I urge you on in the marketplaces here and there.
١. مَتى حَثَّني الشَوقُ يا ناقَتي
حَثَثتُكِ بِالسَّوقِ هَذا بِذاكِ
2. And if the journey wears out your sandals,
My eyelids are just as worn out from weeping.
٢. فَإِن يُدمِ خُفَّيكِ طولُ السُرى
فَمِثلُ جُفوني الدَّوامي البَواكي
3. Rest your cheek, and take my pact, whenever
We reach a stopping-place, not to seek your rest
٣. خِدي وَخُذي العَهدَ مِنّي مَتى
بَلَغنا مِنىً أَن تَنالي مُناكِ
4. Without me. There it is forbidden for luggage
To be unloaded unless the camel kneels.
٤. هُناكَ حَرامٌ عَلى الرَّحلِ وَال
تَرَحُّلِ دونَ المَطايا مَطاكِ
5. O Hind, O Hind, daughter of 'Amir, assuage
My pain with a draught when the cooking-pot is hot.
٥. أَيا هِندُ هِندُ بَني عامِرٍ
شِفا أَلَمي في اِرتِشافي لَماكِ
6. For you I split the mirage, traveling
Below the blazing sun, asking where you are.
٦. إِلَيكِ شَقَقتُ مُلاءَ السَرابِ
بِشاكِيَةِ الأَينِ مِن تَحتِ شاكِ
7. Are you refusing me, though your people are generous,
When treachery is uncharacteristic of you?
٧. أَبُخلاً وَقَومُكَ أَهلُ النَدى
وَغَدراً وَما شان غَدرٌ أَباكِ
8. With what has the perfumed crooked bough of Arak wood
Managed to kiss the cup's rim safely?
٨. بِماذا تَوَسَّلَ عُودُ الأَراكِ
إِلى أَن يُقَبِّلَ بِالأَمنِ فاكِ
