1. The camel riders made for the shooting star's destination,
Their camel feet like curved bows scraping the ground.

2. From every tall and fully loaded camel,
And every camel under canopies, wailing.

3. How many delegates from their caravan kissing in greeting
The tent's stakes - speedy, unloading their burdens.

4. The ostriches' nests were strewn about, and how much
Their feathers were scattered from the nesting grounds.

5. They set out over land and sea alike, knowing
The wisdom of the enlightened and transmitted.

6. He attained knowledge through his own effort,
By God, the sublime is not achieved cheaply.

7. Due to his prose and poetry the poets and
Writers donned the clothes of imposters.

8. By his eyes we do not light the lamps, their kohl
Is darker than pitch black.

9. He has surplus maxims in abundance,
Like signet rings improved with the best gems.

10. Freeing himself of every confusing issue,
Perplexing all others with his excellent solutions.

11. In assemblies of debate he rages like a ferocious lion,
Each opponent rendered weak against him.

Excellent in grammatical inflection and Digression, free

13. Of excessive verbiage or expansion, and precise.
Skillful in answering sound inquiries,

14. Be they incomplete, connected, or deficient.
No fault can be found in him, except that

15. He is not ambitious in praiseworthy gains.
His people admonished him with lavish glory,

16. So he built a monument and gratified the advisor.
He cast off the cloak of arrogance, though he is

17. Wrapped in awe and clothed in a shirt.
O father of praise, you are the most faithful of people. O he

18. Whose disobedience the helpers hold most precious.
The people of Qailah, none can evade the sins of those

19. Whose alliance they spurned one day.
He gains stature from modesty’s decrease –

20. How strange that one grows through diminishment!
If he attained what he deserves, none would match him

21. Among the eminent people singled out.
The virtuous one is deprived while the deficient one is

22. Endowed, distinguished with the garb of favor.
The dew of kings is like enclosures forbidding

23. All but the crows from alighting.
If only they were equitable one day to Shihāb al-Dīn, he would be

24. Given their loftiest and most splendid positions.
No eye glanced at him with enmity

25. Except it returned with a dejected look.
He who showed enmity towards Shihāb al-Dīn still has

26. His neck bowed by the might of his dominion.
Not all who convey the message are his equal,
