1. With a hue like the dye of his well-worn cloak
In its color, and his deeds like indigo
١. وَشادِنٍ صِبغَةَ شُربوشِهِ
في لَونِها وَالفِعل كَالعَندَمِ
2. Imprisoned by his pride, withered and worn
His glance more piercing than a spear's point
٢. مُعتَقِلٌ مِن قَدِّهِ ذابِلاً
وَلَحظُهُ أَمضى مِنَ المِخذَمِ
3. No wonder if he departs while his clothes remain
As if tailored for him in blood
٣. لا غَروَ إِن راحَ وَمَلبوسُهُ
كَأَنَّما أَصدَرَهُ عَن دَمي
4. As if he were a full moon revealed to us
From a red horizon like indigo
٤. كَأَنَّهُ بَدرٌ تَجَلّى لَنا
مِن شَفَقٍ أَحمَرَ كَالعَندَمِ
