1. Spring has spread for us its fragrant meadows
So the downhearted are revived by its moisture
١. نَشَرَ الرَبيعُ لَنا مَطاوِيَ طيبِهِ
فَاِخضَرَّ ذاوِيَ العَيشِ مِن تَرطيبِهِ
2. A season has smiled, unveiling its beauty
After a season that was stern in its solemnity
٢. فَصلٌ تَبَسَّمَ مُسفِراً عن حُسنِهِ
في إِثرِ فَصلٍ لَجَّ في تَقطيبِهِ
3. It is like the imam, so every little hill
Comes with its pulpit and its preacher
٣. هُوَ كَالإِمامِ فَكُلُّ شَحرورٍ عَلى
فَنَنٍ بِمنبَرِهِ أَتى وَخَطيبِهِ
4. It is the alchemist of spring who excelled
In its composition and its refinement
٤. هُوَ كيمياوِيُّ الرَبيعِ أَجادَ في
تَفضيضِهِ صُنعاً وفي تَذهيبِهِ
5. Those are the dirhams and dinars
In its garden and the ink in its mint
٥. تِلكَ الدَراهِمُ وَالدَنانيرُ الَّتي
في رَوضِهِ وَالدَوحُ في مَضروبِهِ
6. And the scattered enamel that
Sprinkled camphor to cover its flaws
٦. وَأَنامِلُ المُنثورِ مِنهُ خَيَّمَت
فَحَثَت عَلى الكافورِ تُربَ عُيوبِهِ
7. It has spread its palms like a lover who prays
To the Merciful to attain the union of his beloved
٧. بسَط الأَكُفَّ كَعاشِقٍ يَدعو إِلى
الرَحمَنِ أَن يَحظى بِوَصلِ حَبيبِهِ
8. The roses are like the shy, the scattered
Perplexed youth, watched over by his guardian
٨. وَالوَردُ كَالخَجلانِ وَالمَنثورِ مُس
تَحيٍكَصَبٍّ مُبتَلى بِرَقيبِهِ
9. The breeze stirred it and awoke the sleeping
Delicate blossoms that danced when it blew
٩. هَبَّ النَسيمُ بِهِ فَنَبَّهَ نائِمُ ال
زَهرِ الأَنيقِ فَهَبَّ عِندَ هُبوبِهِ
10. Indeed, the breeze is its ailing lover who brings
To the lovesick patient the cure through his doctor
١٠. إِنَّ النَسيمَ عَليلُهُ يُهدي إِلى
الصَبِّ العَليلِ شِفاءهُ بِطَبيبِهِ
11. O how delightful is the dancing of the branches
To the singing of the birds when they excel in their melodies
١١. يا حَبَّذا رَقصُ الغُصونِ عَلى غِنا
ءِ الطَيرِ حينَ أَجادَ في تَطريبِهِ
12. O you who blame the wine drinker
Who reaps the fruits he sows from his drink
١٢. يا مَن يَلومُ عَلى المُدامَةِ شارِباً
يَجني ثِمارَ مُناهُ مِن مَشروبِهِ
13. Leave blaming him if you are his advisor
For disobeying what you advise is part of refinement
١٣. دَع عَذلَهُ إِن كُنتَ ناصِحَهُ فَمِن
تَهذيبِهِ عِصيانُ ما تَهذي بِهِ
14. Indeed, blaming the lover for his passion
Seduces him and increases his desire
١٤. إِنَّ المَلامَةَ لِلمُحِبِّ عَلى الهَوى
تُغري بِهِ وَتَزيدُ في تَرغيبِهِ
