1. Turn away from the eye, and the ragged
And from ruins that remained in houses

2. Those are deserted abodes and dwellings
Through which the hands of storms have passed

3. So the gazelles of the desert fled terrified
Every youth locked in palaces

4. Smiling about pearls and coldness
And about gardens and brilliance of light

5. So the palm, with its shade, is a red ruby
Tied with rods of crystal

6. Whenever it appeared, it made the gazelle shy
Or it glanced with a flirting eye

7. Damascus is like the sun, it has no equal
Found in the rest of images

8. As if it is an ornamented garden
Adorned with its boys and Houris

9. And every branch with all kinds of fruit
Leaning to the picker of ripe fruits

10. The breeze shakes it gently on the
Branches so it shows a swaying adorned with pearls

11. And every river whose pebbles are pearls
Over which the melted camphor has flowed

12. Its waves are like horses attacking
With a defeating and breaking surge

13. Swifter than dogs that jumped and saw
Prey of hares

14. It encloses the plains and the valleys together
With no axes or saws

15. Squares where spring has pitched its tents
So you won't see it panicked

16. Its gardens are lively purple and narcissus
Scattered lavishly

17. And its roses are like cheeks colored
By the breeze in jars

18. They prevent our breaths and eyes
With all beauty and fragrance

19. And birds in the valley singing cheerfully
Of nightingales and mocking birds

20. And of thousands which if called in the morning
Would bring David and his Psalms

21. Its growth exemplifies heavens
Truly affirming the promise

22. The water meandered through elevated
And erect places and lowered ones too

23. Dancing in them a dance
Like a singer happily playing music

24. Scattering pearls of silver coins
On a carpet of gold dinars

25. As if its orange fruits, when
Peeled off, are ingots of light

26. Appearing between the green leafy branches
Manifest and hidden

27. The thirsty water sought it
Yearning and hoping to reach the abandoned

28. So many swords on its lofty platforms
Famous for striking water

29. Its plains and sublime outlook
Have no match in any view

30. About its outlook the gardens are shy
And modest in the fetters of falling short

31. Leave the steeps of Bawwān, Al ‘Ubaylat, and Al ‘Iyūn
And sheathe the swords in scabbards

32. It has attained the qualities of a righteous king
Of generosity and goodness

33. Glorified is He who adorned it
With charity and beauty on a sublime stand

34. A king whose steeds’ neighing delights him
As one delighted with music is delighted

35. If he wore armor in battle and white helmets
On the shining forehead

36. People were confused by his moonlike beauty
A moon unlike all other moons

37. A lion with nothing but claws and fangs
And brown hair on fingers

38. He wishes to give gifts generously to those
Who approach his presence on feet

39. He is amazed by its branches that match
The leaves, well-pruned

40. So the sword in his hand has the flash
Of lightning, great in effect

41. And the spear waters its sharp edge
With stabs from the necks of warriors

42. He and his fangs attack livers
In war like little birds

43. His manners are blooming gardens
Of flowers gathered in them

44. You are the pillar of the world, and you are the pillar of religion truly, not falsely
Without you, poetry lacks not one rhyme

45. Deemed excellent in poetry
The faces of its verses charm when

46. Recited, for they are like gold dinars
O Isma'il, how many favors you have

47. Recorded in history
You have become the greatest king

48. In status, fame, and sublimity
So thegreeting of peace and correct guidance is due to you

49. And whoever opposes you is gone with being broken
O you whose attire is glorification

50. O you who dressed the antithesis in belittlement
How many enemies did you weaken their resolve

51. And you remained high with masculinization
Remain forever mighty, arranging it

52. With resolve, wisdom and excellent management
As long as the earth and sky remain

53. Until the blow is blown in the Trumpet
