1. The daughter of the generous tribe, the virtuous bride,
Bore fruits of wisdom, sweetness in hearts,

2. That gladden ears if plucked, then tasted.
Fruits whose springs are lights

3. That tear, through thought, veils of darkness.
Doves of the protected sanctuary,

4. Voices that enchant us with melody.
So restrain desire and fear shedding blood,

5. Lest feet stumble and steps falter.
Leave people to their confused wandering,

6. Take to being, leave non-existence.
Listen not to their blaming,

7. Though they accuse with sharp arrows.
Draw a sword to end harm,

8. Cleave to innocence a sickened heart.
Keep company with honorable, lofty men,

9. Whose ambitions reached, in spirit's realm,
The ultimate end, the divine Lote-Tree;

10. And how the Pen flows on the Tablet.
So their bodies are in becoming's lowland,

11. And their souls in eternity's height.
The path of guidance is clear,

12. And many are the signs for the guided.
Those codes are the successors

13. Of messengers, poured on messengers of bounty.
They are God's mercy which overflowed

14. On those led aright, like pouring rain.
So rend with the gentle wind of piety,

15. The veils of divine oneness, like breath.
Hearken to an adviser, O brother of

16. Purity, leave the clash of regret's bells.
When time comes either blessing you

17. Or pressing with its fetters,
Seek refuge in the All-Able, calling on

18. The All-Independent of both worlds, Abraham.
Through him extract redress, as the Friend

19. Smote with his right hand and crushed the idol.
A prince, humble in awesome gravity

20. That splits hearts of black lions.
How many torments from him poured on

21. Fierce beasts in vengeance for the sheep.
The nobles of Arabs and non-Arabs held back

22. From their status, but he undertook
The burdens of kings' concerns, so they slept

23. While he was sleepless.
The lands came subdued to him,

24. In his abode they said judgment was given.
Authority was entrusted to the upright,

25. God-fearing when he ruled.
If not for God's pleasure he never

26. Said but no, and struggled in bounty.
None before walked his path

27. But the two Civilized Ones in fine character.
For truth he draws near a distant hated one,

28. And distances a brother or cousin.
By it the corrupt are warred upon by him

29. And the righteous made safe in a sanctuary.
Why shouldn’t Muslims be delighted by him

30. When he protected their wealth and sanctuaries?
By him gloom lifted from us,

31. He showed us his cheerfulness and smiled.
Felicity shone in his views,

32. And the darkness of anxiety and sorrow disappeared.
Damascus, by him and his days,

33. And destroying every stubborn tyrant.
When in war he attacked, raging,

34. Fears retreated from him in dread.
By his thrust the silence of spears is heard,

35. Their slackness fruitful with bravery’s endeavor.
When arms are boughs and wounds

36. Are ponds overflowing with blood.
He quenches the fires in the breasts of swords

37. With the water of necks when he storms.
Has neglect captured me, O pillar of rule,

38. As flesh shrinks and shrivels?
I hid my state from gloaters

39. As grey hairs are concealed by dye.
The blind saw my merit and the deaf

40. Heard my words.
Though fate seemed to see me,

41. It was blindly unjust to me.
You are hoped in after God,

42. May God protect you from painful woes.
So continue blithely despite enviers' wrath,

43. Your command obeyed among nations.
As long as time flashes no lightning,

44. And no star sparkles in the horizon like a star.
