1. Our friends when they appeared
Made our sleep troubles clear

2. After them our eyelids
Still with tears wet appear

3. Though wherever I was
My heart was with them there

4. Never did yearning for them
In it find repose or care

5. I hid my love but does
Weeping conceal despair?

6. Many a lovely roe have I seen
The deer escorting fare

7. Her flanks softly swaying
The onlooker to ensnare

8. Hind quarters quivering
The dunes they make compare

9. Of the wild cows graceful neck
And glance no equal were

10. Alas, the bouquet where is it
Now the teeth will tear?

11. Her cheek the apples loaned
Their blush so debonair

12. And the dimples of her smile
Roses placed with care

13. Breasts like pomegranates
Ripe, for plucking there

14. She’s adorned with the best
That any garden bears

15. No more do I crave, after them
Meadows green and rare

16. Nor after joys I never knew
Do I nostalgia bear

17. A wine cup as though melted in it
Silver coins had been

18. So losers must be drinkers
And winners those abstain

19. My heart with sadness filled
Pour me then this cup again

20. It sailed with Noah when came
The flood, the great deluge then

21. Their love for me angels
And theirs God's pleasure gain

22. As for this world, a mistress she
Whom we cherish now and then

23. Yet her spit is mixed with mold
And decay of tooth and glen

24. Drinking her, to us waft spirits
Of heaven, like times when

25. From forgiveness comes the name
And so forgiveness gain

26. My lord Badr al Din, time itself
Cannot make you wane

27. Lasting whilst the Gemini
Move on night sky’s terrain

28. The Quran attends you from
What stars and moon contain

29. Seeing you, Sirius itself
Turns to companion then

30. In your rule, Sultan, none
Can equal your domain

31. You the one whom youth extol
Their praises you obtain
