1. My Lord brought me close, so I stand not
At those stations or sanctuaries.

2. That quarter's oxen brought woe
To the land's people—wild oxen.

3. A young man's honor depends on
His daughters’ wombs—his honoraries.

4. So guard your glances from wildness
And value your neighbors over fences.

5. When a wall grows short, do not crane
To see what a neighbor's courtyard contains.

6. I found the course of events overflowing
With foxholes and neighboring warriors.

7. Do not let sight at sight startle you
Nor light seen through hollows.

8. Turn from a household adorned
With beauties native to its neighbor.

9. Do not sneak glances toward the bangles
Of another’s wrist from your bracelets.

10. Late visitors and a cup passed around
Fill your guesthouse and its subsidiaries.

11. Reason lies with you—do what seems
Fair: that is the excellent choice.

12. Accept no judgment from the Torah,
For truth has withdrawn into hiding.

13. Its scrolls have become, for the Jews,
Refuse—like objects discarded and ruined.

14. When you devote a secret to the Creator,
It is no longer one of your strayings.

15. If riders pass, do not crane
Toward the mobile warriors.

16. Fleeing your quiver is like a serpent
Whenever plunderers descend.

17. A flock circles a household—women
In Mecca or the virgins of a village.
