1. Time has passed, leaving in the earth a corpse
Will men ever be sated with lamentations?

2. The soul is earthly, so say some people
While others say it ascends to the heavens

3. It passes on in the form of the person
In whom it had dwelt, to an abode

4. Of blessings or misery
Its being in the frame of the body

5. Obliged it to garments and provisions
And God's power is true, nothing can hinder it

6. From resurrecting a people or reviving the dead
So wonder at the sublime, silent bodies

7. In what is said of them with voices
And do not obey a people whose religion

8. Is nothing but a ruse for taking bribes
He who reads the Torah bears it

9. Only to gain interest, not for recitations
The laws have cast hatred amongst us

10. And lodged us in the pits of enmities
Were the women of the tribe permitted in lineage
