1. Will chains ever free themselves?
Evil deeds are truly ugly

١. هَل آنَ لِلقَيدِ أَن تَفُكَّه
إِنَّ قَبيحَ الفِعالِ حِكِّه

2. In every land an evil ruler
Strikes the people with the worst of plans

٢. بِكُلِّ أَرضٍ أَميرُ سوءٍ
يَضرِبُ لِلناسِ شَرَّ سِكِّه

3. Deceit has spread, the powerful
Rely on it, and the weak

٣. قَد كَثُرَ الغِشُّ وَاِستَعانَت
بِهِ الأَشِدّاءُ وَالأَرِكَّه

4. You see no honest person
Whose rope is not twisted by fraud

٤. فَما تَرى مِسكَةً بِحالٍ
إِلّا وَقَد موزِجَت بِسُكَّه

5. No learned man finds one
To clarify doubts for him

٥. وَلَم يَجِد سائِلٌ عَليماً
يُزيلُ بِالموضِحاتِ شَكَّه

6. How many horsemen attack innocents
And how many follow their example

٦. كَم فارِسٍ يَغتَدي لِغابٍ
وَفارِسٍ يَقتَدي بِشِكَّه

7. Leave them be, and what they wanted
Settle in Jerusalem or Mecca instead

٧. فَخَلِّهِم وَالَّذي أَرادوا
وَحُلَّ بِالقُدسِ أَو بِمَكَّه

8. Time has stamped them, the stamp of a blind man
The hands of oblivion will write their stamp

٨. صَكَّهُمُ الدَهرُ صَكَّ أَعمى
تَكتُبُ أَيدي الفَناءِ صَكَّه

9. Yathrib has turned against them
And the weeping of Muslims laments them

٩. قَد ثَرَّبَت يَثرِبٌ عَلَيهِم
وَبِكَّةُ المُسلِمينَ بَكَّه
