1. People have gone on at length in talk, but gain
Nothing except by tripping into folly's ravine.

2. Wondrous is the Messiah amidst a people
Who trace his parentage back to the Divine!

3. The Christians handed him over to the Jews,
And they all concurred that it was they who slew him.

4. The wise and prudent man looks after the child,
Lest when its mother bears it, they strike and hew him.

5. If what they say of Jesus is indeed true,
Where was his father when it was done unto him?

6. How did he leave his child to the enemies?
Or did they think that they had overcome him?

7. And if you ask the people of religion,
They alter meanings according to what suits them.

8. They follow imagination, not intellect,
Giving credence to fabrications they eschew him.
