1. Some foolish people call the raven fickle
Because to them parting is decisive and absolute

2. This false accusation, grief knows nothing of
And cares not whether it receives praise or blame

3. The true gentleman does not tolerate causing hurt
Nor divulges secrets when bidden to be mute

4. The brave assailant, the needy he helps
Or the orphan of Ummayyah left bereft

5. He does not raise his voice in empty chatter by day
Nor creeps about but to those near him intimate

6. And life is like the faded vine whose tendrils
Once spread but by decay are now consumed
