لذاتنا إبل الزمان ينالها

1. Our pleasures are the camels of time taken
By the brother of destruction who is devastating

١. لَذّاتُنا إِبلُ الزَمانِ يَنالُها
مِنّا أَخو الفَتكِ الَّذي هُوَ خارِبُ

2. And I see toil that covers a man like a veil
From the daughter of grapes who is drinking

٢. وَأَرى عَناءً قيدَ يَغشى المَرءَ مِن
بِنتِ العَناقيدِ الَّذي هُوَ شارِبُ

3. And for the master of people at his curtain
There is a nature fought by modesty and waging war

٣. وَلِسَيِّدِ الأَقوامِ عِندَ حِجابِهِ
طَبعٌ يُقاتِلُهُ الحِجى وَيُحارِبُ

4. And evil in ancient seriousness is an instinct
In every soul from it a beating vein

٤. وَالشَرُّ في الجَدِّ القَديمِ غَريزَةٌ
في كُلِّ نَفسٍ مِنهُ عِرقٌ ضاربُ
