1. If the soul has not tasted imminent death,
If its day has not been heated by fate,
١. النَفسُ إِن لَم تَذُق مَوتاً مُشارِفَةٌ
إِن لَم يَحُمَّ بِقَدرٍ يَومُها يَحُمِ
2. If the fire is not extinguished of its intensity,
Then the remaining embers are concealed and forgiven.
٢. إِن تَطفَإِ النارُ عَن جَزلٍ فَإِنَّ لَها
يُعفى وَيُخبَأُ ما أَبقَت مِنَ الفَحَمِ
3. And part of your body harms another part,
And most harm comes from close relatives.
٣. وَبَعضُ جِسمِكَ يَرمي بَعضَهُ بِأَذى
وَأَكثَرُ الشَرِّ يَأتي مِن ذَوي الرَحِمِ
4. And people desire what they cannot attain,
And people's fellowship is less than a fetus in the womb.
٤. وَيَشتَهي الناسُ ما لا يُسعَفونَ بِهِ
وَشِركَةُ الخَلقِ دونَ الحَملِ في الوَحَمِ
