1. To God I complain of a pain that disobeys me,
And of a world that has no guide within it.
١. إِلى اللَهِ أَشكو مُهجَةً لا تُطيعُني
وَعالَم سوءٍ لَيسَ فيهِ رَشيدُ
2. Neglect, like a house whose dwellers have gone, wears it away,
And ignorance, like tenants installed, has rebuilt it.
٢. حِجىً مِثلُ مَهجورِ المَنازِلِ داثِرٌ
وَجَهلٌ كَمَسكونِ الدِيارِ مَشيدُ
3. For certain, the patience of mankind has been lost since Adam,
Could it be, through that loss, that I have been guided?
٣. لَقَد ضَلَّ حِلمُ الناسِ مُذ عَهدِ آدَمَ
فَهَل هُوَ مِن ذاكَ الضَلالِ نَشيدُ
