1. The heart of the fiery volcano was silenced by its eruption
Red and the fire dons the dress of charcoal
١. أَصمَت سُوَيداءَ قَلبٍ مِن تَلَهُّبِها
حَمراءُ وَالنارُ تَنضو حُلَّةَ الفَحَمِ
2. As if the lion cast the color of its eyelids
Upon it at night, so it was covered in ashes
٢. كَأَنَّما اللَيثُ أَلقى لَونَ مُقلَتِهِ
لَيلاً عَلَيها فَقَد مَلَّت مِنَ السَحَمِ
3. And the dust is our carrier through darkness and it is our parent
And how many relatives and wombs we have in it
٣. وَالتُربُ نَقليهِ ظُلماً وَهوَ والِدُنا
وَكَم لَنا فيهِ مِن قُربى وَمِن رَحِمِ
