1. The devout man is the richest of people though he lives on a mountainside
Content with little, disdaining pomp and finery
١. أَغنى الأَنامِ تَقِيٌّ في ذُرى جَبَلٍ
يَرضى القَليلَ وَيَأبى الوَشيَ وَالتاجا
2. Yet the poorest of men is a king in his world's affairs
Who sacrifices everything for gems and jewels
٢. وَأَفقَرُ الناسِ في دُنياهُمُ مَلِكٌ
يُضحي إِلى اللَجَبِ الجَرّارِ مُحتاجا
3. And death I know leaves not
Either lion with claws or deer with antlers
٣. وَقَد عَلِمتُ المَنايا غَيرَ تارِكَةٍ
لَيثاً بِخِفّانِ أَو ظبيّاً بِفِرتاجا
