1. I see thefts in unbelief and Egypt  
Brought you bracelets of walls and anklets   
١. أَرى السَرِقاتِ في كَفرٍ وَمِصرٍ
 أَتَتكَ بِحَليِ أَسوارٍ وَحِجلِ
2. Yet not of youth but iron they are  
And they have ruled to cut off hand and leg 
٢. وَلَيسا مِن نُضارٍ بَل حَديدٌ
 وَقَد حَكَما بِقَطعِ يَدٍ وَرِجلِ
3. You dragged your tail in foolish vanities  
Would that you were averse, delaying absurdly    
٣. جَرَرتَ الذَيلَ في سَفَهِ المَخازي
 فَلَيتَكَ نافِرٌ ذَيّالَ إِجلِ
4. Eager for war, desiring it    
Urging on fury while from it you recoil 
٤. يَشِبُّ الحَربَ مُشتاقٌ إِلَيها
 يَحُثُّ عَلى الهِياجِ وَعَنهُ تُجلي
5. Fate does not refrain from what is willed    
By what you gathered of horse and foot 
٥. وَما تَثني المَقادِرُ عَن مُرادٍ
 بِما جَمَّعَت مِن خَيلٍ وَرَجلِ
