1. Songs and tombs are guarded by spears,
No door or guard can stop the fated one.
١. تُشادُ المَغاني وَالقُبورُ دَوارِسُ
وَلا يَمنَعُ المَطروقَ بابٌ وَحارِسُ
2. They say religion itself can be abrogated,
As it was when the Hanifa turned towards Persia.
٢. يَقولونَ إِنَّ الدينَ يُنسَخُ مِثلَ ما
تَوَلَّت بِإِقبالِ الحَنيفَةِ فارِسُ
3. But no matter what, God does not disappear,
And man will reap what he has sown.
٣. وَمَهما يَكُن فَاللَهُ لَيسَ بِزائِلٍ
وَيَجني الفَتى مِن بَعدُ ماهُوَ غارِسُ
4. I see my final home awaiting me,
You've forgotten what the neighbors have fed you.
٤. أَرى مَقِرّاً في آخَرِ العَيشِ كائِناً
نَسيتَ لَهُ ما أَطعَمَتكَ الجَوارِسُ
5. They say hellfire fiercely burns,
While the religious one prays and the debauched carouses.
٥. أَيا قَيلُ إِنَّ النارَ صالٍ بِحَرِّها
مُقيمُ صَلاةٍ وَالمُهَنَّدُ وارِسُ
6. In the sands are gray hair and childbirth,
Reaping what the harvesters have sown.
٦. وَبِالرَملَةِ الشَعثاءِ شَيبٌ وَوِلدَةٌ
أَصابَهُمُ مِمّا جَنَيتَ الدَهارِسُ
7. Keep away from the yellow one in daylight,
And draw near the blonde one in the dark of night.
٧. فَأَبعِد مِنَ الصَفراءِ وَاليَومُ واقِدٌ
وَأَدنِ مِنَ الشَقراءِ وَاللَيلُ قارِسُ
8. Egypt's rulers have now appeared over them -
Are their oppressions as cruel as they used to be?
٨. وَقَد ظَهَرَت أَملاكُ مِصرَ عَلَيهُمُ
فَهَل مارَسَت مِن ظُلمِها ما تُمارِسُ
9. Better than you in treating the flock,
Was Thujj bin Juf when he stood up and rebelled.
٩. وَأَحسَنُ مِنكُم في الرَعيَّةِ سيرَةً
طُغُجُّ بنُ جُفٍّ حينَ قامَ وَبارِسُ
10. By luck the people's follower becomes the master,
And the wolves eat the lions in their dens.
١٠. وَبِالحَظِّ يُدعى تابِعُ القَومِ سَيِّداً
وَتَأكُلُ آسادَ العَرينِ الهَجارِسُ
11. The horsemen spend the night wrapped in their cloaks,
Then at dawn they mount their steeds and charge.
١١. تُقيمُ عَلى الدَهرِ الفَوارِسُ في الدُجى
وَتَرحَلُ مِن فَوقِ الجِيادِ الفَوارِسُ
