1. He recited the Book of God from memory
While drunk, with a goblet filled to the brim
١. تَلا كِتابَ اللَهِ مِن حِفظِهِ
مَن هُو بِالكَأسِ مَليءٌ حَفي
2. As though to spite his evil deeds
He spilled wine over the Scripture
٢. كَأَنَّهُ مِن سوءِ أَفعالِهِ
يُبَدِّدُ الخَمرَ عَلى المُصحَفِ
3. Reproach not the drinker in his stupor
Degrade him not, nor heap abuse
٣. لا تَضِفِ الشارِبَ في سُكرِهِ
وَلا تُنَزِّلهُ وَلا تُلحِفِ
