2. A hand grew yellow, and a blade grew blunt,
A soul desired, and an eye shed tears.

3. And the fire of his brazier in the darkness
Seeks to kindle the years with raising smoke.

4. Whoever lived tries to mend his shirt
And fill his shirt and cure his grief.

ูˆูŽู…ูŽู„ุกูŽ ุงู„ุฎูŽู…ูŠุตู ูˆูŽุจูุฑุกูŽ ุงู„ุถูŽู†ู‰

5. And he whom the grave embraced cannot be blamed
For what he gained or what he hoarded.

6. He becomes dust equally, whether
Silk or spearhead touches him.

ูฆ. ูŠูŽุตูŠุฑู ุชูุฑุงุจุงู‹ ุณูŽูˆุงุกูŒ ุนูŽู„ูŽูŠู‡ู
ู…ูŽุณู‘ู ุงู„ุญูŽุฑูŠุฑู ูˆูŽุทูŽุนู†ู ุงู„ู‚ูŽู†ุง

7. And drinking the cup of oblivion with green fernid
Is as if upon their wedding nights the brides perished.

ูง. ูˆูŽุดูุฑุจู ุงู„ููŽู†ุงุกู ุจูุฎูŽุถุฑู ุงู„ููุฑู†ูุฏู
ูƒูŽุฃูŽู†ู‘ูŽ ุนูŽู„ู‰ ุฃูุณู‘ูู‡ูู†ู‘ูŽ ุงู„ููู†ุง

8. Nor does anger diminish his forbearance
If he is titled โ€œrememberingโ€ or โ€œforgetting.โ€

ุฃูŽู„ูŽู‚ู‘ูŽุจูŽู‡ู ุฐุงูƒูุฑูŒ ุฃูŽู… ูƒูŽู†ู‰

9. He is congratulated for good he attained,
But congratulations are not for what he intended.

ูฉ. ูŠูู‡ูŽู†ู‘ูŽุฃู ุจูุงู„ุฎูŽูŠุฑู ู…ูŽู† ู†ุงู„ูŽู‡ู
ูˆูŽู„ูŽูŠุณูŽ ุงู„ู‡ูŽู†ุงุกู ุนูŽู„ู‰ ู…ุง ู‡ูู†ุง

10. And it is nearer for him who was in felicity
To meet doom than to meet purpose.

ุจูู„ูู‚ูŠุง ุงู„ู…ูู†ู‰ ู…ูู† ู„ูู‚ุงุกู ุงู„ู…ูŽู†ุง

11. Wondrous is my body, its spirit
Has continuously served until it weakened.

ูกูก. ุฃูŽุนุงุฆูุจูŽุฉูŒ ุฌูŽุณูŽุฏูŠ ุฑูˆุญูู‡ู
ูˆูŽู…ุง ุฒุงู„ูŽ ูŠูŽุฎุฏูู…ู ุญูŽุชู‘ู‰ ูˆูŽู†ู‰

12. And it has charged him its marvels
At times singly, at times in pairs.

ููŽุทูŽูˆุฑุงู‹ ููุฑุงุฏู‰ ูˆูŽุทูŽูˆุฑุงู‹ ุซูู†ุง

13. The son of Adam contradicts the state of the branches
For those yielded fruit while this reaped.

ูกูฃ. ูŠูู†ุงููŠ ุงูุจู†ู ุขุฏูŽู…ูŽ ุญุงู„ูŽ ุงู„ุบูุตูˆู†ู
ููŽู‡ุงุชูŠูƒูŽ ุฃูŽุฌู†ูŽุช ูˆูŽู‡ูŽุฐุง ุฌูŽู†ู‰

14. Dyeing changes his gray hair,
But did it change his back when it bent?

ูกูค. ุชูุบูŽูŠู‘ูุฑู ุตูู†ู‘ุงุคูู‡ู ุดูŠุจูŽู‡ู
ููŽู‡ูŽู„ ุบูŽูŠู‘ูŽุฑูŽ ุงู„ุธูŽู‡ุฑูŽ ู„ูŽู…ู‘ุง ุงูู†ุญูŽู†ู‰

15. When he never betrayed time, it came to him
Deceitfully and said, โ€œBe dimmed!โ€

ูกูฅ. ุฅูุฐุง ู‡ููˆูŽ ู„ูŽู… ูŠูุฎู†ู ุฏูŽู‡ุฑูŒ ุนูŽู„ูŽูŠู‡ู
ุฌุงุกูŽ ุงู„ููŽุฑููŠู‘ูŽ ูˆูŽู‚ุงู„ูŽ ุงู„ุฎูŽู†ู‰

16. And horses are the equals of the noble
While the sons of the lowly are but ponies.

ุญูŽุตุงู†ูŒ ูˆูŽู…ูŽู† ุฃูู…ู‘ูู‡ู ููŽุฑุชูŽู†ู‰

17. I have an appointment at the cup of death,
But I know not when its time will come.

18. An age speaks to its sons openly
Though they are ignorant of what it meant.

ุฌูู‡ุงุฑุงู‹ ูˆูŽู‚ูŽุฏ ุฌูŽู‡ูŽู„ูˆุง ู…ุง ุนูŽู†ู‰

19. It changes its barrenness to ease
And its events demolish what was built.

ูˆูŽุชูŽู‡ุฏูู…ู ุฃูŽุญุฏุงุซูู‡ู ู…ุง ุจูŽู†ู‰

20. You have succeeded if you were given heavens
When you visited Mecca or Mina.
