1. O my silent preacher, why do you not
Recite to me your sweet words?
١. يا واعِظي بِالصَمتِ ما لَكَ لا
تُلقي إِلَيَّ حَديثَكَ اللَذا
2. The two new ones, who are
My own unprompted compositions, not coached ones,
٢. إِنَّ الجَديدَينِ اللَذَينِ هُما
سِبقانِ بَذّاتي وَما بُذّا
3. Are like archers whose arrows
Are not fledged or barbed,
٣. كَالنابِلَينِ غَدَت سِهامُهُما
لَيسَت مُرَيَّشَةً وَلا قُذّا
4. And it is as if the hours have wings
So that sending them is like releasing a trained hunting cat.
٤. وَكَأَنَّ لِلساعاتِ أَجنِحَةً
فَإِخالُهُنَّ بِها قَطاً حُذّا
5. Fate calls out from a hillock:
"Leave this one for its time or take that one!"
٥. قَدَرٌ يُنادي الحَتفَ مِن كَثَبٍ
دَع ذا إِلى الميقاتِ أَو خُذ ذا
6. The whiteness of dawn sprouted my hopes
And I had entrusted them to the gloaming, snatched away.
٦. أَمَلي بَياضُ الصُبحِ أَنبَتَهُ
وَعَهِدتُه بِالأَمسِ مُنجَذّا
7. Let joy be for him who is honored by it,
And worship your God, matchless and peerless.
٧. خَلِّ السَرورَ لِمَن يُعَزُّ بِهِ
وَاِعبُد إِلهَكَ واحِداً فَذّا
