2. I complained of the days' fickleness with perfidy,
With loss and transfer from joy to sorrow,

3. And a state like the eagle's feathers while I saw it
A wing for boldness with feathers over an arrow,

4. And there is no one like the loss of the noble Muhammad,
Either the misery of grave events or the crime of a sinner,

5. So O you who bury him in the ground, verily his grave
Is the home of goodness, so bury him in knowledge,

6. And O you who carry his bier, verily above it
Is a celestial secret so fear the star of stoning,

7. And his bier is but like a bier I found
A father to daughters who do not fear orphanhood,

8. So alas for the fates! They left no ultimate goal,
They lifted the veils and looked upon the stars,

9. I excuse him if the wine jars are silent about his death,
So woe to the jealousy after him of the silent jars,

10. The sword cried until the tears made its eyelids green
Over a horseman who quenched it from the horseman of sorrows,

11. The lofty places and wild animals enjoy his shoots
Meeting misfortunes whether in bands or in ruins,

12. By Allah, my Lord, none like him has ever wielded a sword
In a day of war or peace,

13. Nor called to the horses, โ€œCharge forward in the fray!โ€
When it was said, โ€œRestrain!โ€ in its tightness, O my mother,

14. Nor turned the sword blade like his right hand,
A right hand, even if the favors were repeated,

15. Nor did the left hand restrain the bridle firmly
As his left, while the horsemen had reckless resolve,

And anger, so they inflicted the irritated with a blow,

17. And they tossed the braids of the she-camel as if
We had gestured to one with vegetation by a sign,

18. So horsemen of war who in the morning musk is mixed
With them, the trotting sniffing into their noble noses,

19. And this one's father was the noble one,
The prince of meanings, the knight of prose and verse,

20. If it is said โ€œpiety,โ€ the friend is Khalil ibn Azhar,
And if it is said โ€œunderstanding,โ€ the friend is the brother of understanding,

21. The houses of poetry stood deciding after him
Composing elegies, which are forms unto ruin,

ูƒุฃู†ู‘ูŽ ุงู„ุญูู…ูŽูŠู‘ุง ู„ูˆู’ุนุฉูŒ ููŠ ุงุจู†ูŽุฉู ุงู„ูƒูŽุฑู’ู…ู

22. We mourned him until for the gazelle and mountain roe
Every wish would sacrifice itself for the inevitable,

23. And the new moon's thin crescent was not worn out,
But in his face was the effect of the blow,

24. So O you who intends farewell, if you find consolation,
You are near in imagination and delusion,

25. As if you have not dragged a wine skin, and not dragged
A girl, and not forced a prince under command,

26. And your face did not show, and your fire did not shine,
And your spear did not thrust, and your palm did not protect,

27. Gabriel approached with your soul ascending
To the Throne, presenting it to your grandfather and mother,

29. And do not forget me on the Day of Gathering around him
At the Basin, mixed crowds between flowing and ebbing,

30. Perhaps on the Day of Resurrection you will remember me
And ask my Lord to lighten my sins.
