1. The decree of Allah unleashes calamities,
Destroying both the brave and the coward.

2. So live virtuously or seek forgiveness,
And be either happy or cease to be so.

3. For time gladdened not the sincere friend
Except to later grieve the jealous foe.

4. It moves the white and black pieces until
It destroys despite itself both white and black.
