1. I am bound to fate throughout my life
Still swimming in tumultuous seas
١. أَنا لِصَرورَةِ في الحَياةِ مُقارِنٌ
ما زُلتُ أَسبَحُ في البِحارِ المُوَّجِ
2. And bound by my two inherent traits
For I've not yet performed Hajj or married
٢. وَصَرورَةٌ في شيمَتَينِ لِأَنَّني
مُذ كُنتُ لَم أَحجُج وَلَم أَتَزَوَّجِ
3. It is my way to not quaff from a silver
Goblet or heed crooked drinking
٣. مِن مَذهَبي أَن لا أَشُدَّ بِفِضَّةٍ
قَدَحي وَلا أُصغي لِشَربِ مُعَوَّجِ
4. Rather I spend my days content
Joyous with simple green sustenance
٤. لَكِن أُقضي مُدَّتي بِتَقَنُّعٍ
يَغني وَأَفرَحُ بِاليَسيرِ الأَروَجِ
5. Thus I stand not wishing that I
Wear royal garb or a dazzling crown
٥. هَذا وَلَستُ أَوَدُّ أَنّي قائِمٌ
بِالمَلِكِ في ثَوبَي أَغَرَّ مُتَوَّجِ
