١. أَصابَ الأَخفَشَينِ بَصيرُ خَطبٍ
أَعادَ الأَعشَيَينِ بِلا حِوارِ
2. And the wine of nights intoxicated Al-Mazini,

٢. وَغيلَ المازِنِيُّ مِنَ الليالي
بِزِندٍ مِن خُطوبِ الدَهرِ واري
3. And enough of Al-Jurmi and what his hands did in crime,
Whether in success or failure and fickleness.
٣. وَلِلجَرميُّ ما اِجتَرَمَت يَداهُ
وَحَسبُكَ مِن فَلاحٍ أَو بَوارِ
4. As for his chick, it has no wings,
Flying with the burden of dancing slave girls' pens.
٤. فَأَمّا فَرخُهُ فَبِلا جَناحٍ
يَطيرُ بِحَملِ أَقلامٍ جَواري
5. And it never cared to gather grains of love one day,
To be held hostage in the traps of fickle horses.
٥. وَلَم يَهمُم بِلَقطِ الحَبِّ يَوماً
فَيوجَدَ رَهنَ أَشراكٍ دَواري
6. Nor does it drink water when it's surrounded,
By chicks, lean from starvation.
٦. وَلا يَرِدُ المِياهَ إِذا هَوافٍ
مِنَ الأَفراخِ مُتنَ مِنَ الأَوارِ
7. It lives longer than eagles,
Eagles of birds, not of adorned wrists.
٧. أَتَمُّ مِنَ النُسورِ بَقاءَ عُمرٍ
نُسورُ الطَيرِ لا الشُهُبِ السَواري
8. And most of its complaints of troubles,
Is a nakedness of its nakedness.
٨. وَأَكثَرُ ماشَكاهُ مِنَ الرَزايا
عَواريٌّ لِضَيعَتِهِ عَواري
9. Sometimes counseling the sunsets,
Other times hiding in the caves at daybreak.
٩. فُطوراً بِالمَغارِبِ مُستَشاراً
وَطَوراً بِالمَشارِقِ في غِرارِ
10. And it did not fear the doves, so I made it hide,
From the attacking falcons in concealment.
١٠. وَلَم يَخِفِ الحِمامَ فَأَلجَأتُهُ
مُطِلّاتُ الصُقورِ إِلى تَواري
11. More precious to its treasuries than the unmatched,
And more lasting in palms than bracelets.
١١. أَجَلُّ مِنَ الفَريدِ لِخازِنيهِ
وَأَبقى في الأَكُفِّ مِنَ السِوارِ
12. And the heated love of Al-Mubarrad was of no use,
As crafty hyenas hunted prey.
١٢. وَما نَفَعَ المُبَرِّدَ مِن حَميمٍ
وَصادَت ثَعلَباً نُوَبٌ ضَواري
