1. Do not grieve for one who died yearning,
For aspirations,if drawn out too long,are frustrated.

2. You fell short of reaching the heights in nobility,
Verily, no rajaz verse can match the ode.

3. As for Hijaz, there is no hope of staying there,
For it is hemmed in by intense heat.

4. And Syria is aflame with the fuel of war,
Its people hardened like impenetrable coats of mail.

5. And Iraq quivers with a flash that spills blood,
Thundering at the encounter of evil, overhasty.

6. The end of time will find the like of its beginning,
And the present comes to its destined extent.

7. So prepare me, may God be your guardian, a mother
To follow my companions, that I may gain resolve.
