1. The gardens are in full bloom, so pause in the courtyard of home
And give it life, and water it with your flowing tears

2. My old dwelling, and the nights of my life lit up
Where I spent my youth and homeland

3. My love wept for it at dawn early on
As the breeze stirred its sweet fragrance

4. The tresses of chaste youth fluttered
As pure as tears, cleansed of all impurities

5. As if poured from a pearl’s water
A light embodied in joyous spirits

6. A delight to the ear, the eye’s longing infatuation
For they are the pleasure of hearing and seeing

7. When they gently sway their delicate branches
You’d see boughs of Bān bending like crescents

8. Their outer garments complain of their underskirts
What wonders! One covered, the other bare

9. How many heroes fell slain by their deadly glance
Intentional they did it, though not seeking vengeance

10. Smitten men and wise men alike desire them
Without sin or shame in their closeness

11. Those are the days I continue to remember
How not when my beloved is chatting

12. I beg God’s forgiveness, but charming poetry
Adorns verse, whether settled or nomad

13. Al-Mustafā Ḥassān poetically said
Words that echoed in Najd and its valleys

14. “A fair one, with flushed cheeks, a bit chubby
Not tall, nor even five handspans high

15. As if her spittle after her slumber
Were musk she exhales from her veil

16. I say to the riders when they set out at dawn
For travel, every safe arrival across lands

17. Quickly! As if the ostriches of Al-Daw’
Were flapping wings after adornment

18. Urge on the horses, as your generosity’s sea
With tumultuous water is an overflowing spring

19. It quenches the thirst of wishes for its attainer
When it complains of the echo of destitution and dearth

20. A king whose rise adorned the world
And the universe shone with his greatness

21. A king descended from a root that yielded
Fruit in the generous era after eras

22. They renewed the faith when its pillars faded
And cleft the edge of Kisrā in Dhi Qar

23. They who are right when they speak and judge
Goodly reports and news spread of them

24. They who expend themselves to face the horror
And defend virtue from disgrace and shame

25. Glory flourished in Najd and spread
To the horizon of Suhayl and furthest Bulgaria

26. Praise in the illustrious heaven shines
Like the stars traversing the skies

27. But the crown of earth’s kings, when mentioned
One day, surpassing in merit and worth

28. Is ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, whose caliphate
Was God’s mercy upon settled and nomad

29. After their fear, God gave them safety
When he assumed power, and eased hardship

30. I sense the most terrifying lion whose canopy
Shields the resolute, bold, and piercing hero

31. The victorious, valiant, undaunted in resolve
Sound in opinion, in issuing and enacting

32. He attained what he attained only after
The reddened swords spilled the blood of every tyrant

33. And he dragged them in the dirt, their litters bloodstained
Complaining of assaults amid advance and retreat

34. They charge with lions when facing their equals
They sacrificed themselves, but the spears were the buyers

35. The blaze of battlefields in their palms tells
Of the moon’s radiance quenching the flames

36. And how many sincere scenes amid the fray
Where you decisive the piercing blade arbitrated

37. And how many exalted ones their souls for love of you
Freed without choice or consent

38. By compulsion you protected them with spears while they
Were lions, but a harmful wolf attacked them

39. You clothed a people in the garb of dew, but they wished
To cleave you with the strike of an unsheathed sword

40. You erase the verses of the glorious two, but none
Builds glory except by sword and coin

41. For he who upholds the straight path, and for
Every betrayer of God’s covenant, a plotter

42. May their blood be anguish in enviers’ throats, and guidance
For the guided, wealth for settler and nomad

43. You’ve heard before from ʿAwn and poetic pioneers
Wonders encircling the horizons, dispersed

44. To remain across time after eras
Were it not for you, I would not be so concerned with verse

45. Or gain by it nobility's acceptance
And the station of disgrace does not satisfy a man

46. Even if amid gardens and rivers
You honored me generously, so I took pride among

47. The nomads and settled folk of the wilderness
I will forever praise a time that was

48. My frequent return to you, and you my verse’s cradle
So if I thank, your gifts that have spoken

49. Will praise you in my proclamation and secrecy
And bless the Lord on the guide, his partisans

50. And companions, and be pleased with his second in the cave
