1. The skillful have conveyed to you the furthest of hopes
So cease this restless roaming from plain to mountain

2. Rest your mount for sustenance is preordained
That which is written in eternity none can outpace

3. Oft has the saddle-cloth borne us down
In perilous descent, perilous ascent, heedless folly

4. Ferries that shift their hues, now shimmering
Now creaking o’er raucous waters, swaying idle

5. But now Allah has lightened our burden
In the realm of Murtaza in word and deed

6. Lower your ambitions; be sated with the glory of a ruler
Give respite to travelers, settled and nomad alike

7. A king whose rise was heralded by Fate
Whose smiling lips parted, teeth gleaming bright

8. His glory undimmed as he climbed to greatness
With the true resolve of a stalwart hero

9. Son of Aziz whose youth was restored to him
After the fetters of old age and senility

10. He sought not the kingdom as inherited right
But strove with courage to claim his prize

11. Yet his fathers had a share in this rule
And sacrificed themselves at empire’s altar

12. I smell the perfume of a kingdom nobler
Than lions who built their den with ivory white

13. Bestowing blessings without reserve or rancor
Ruling justly, without bias or injustice

14. Upholding piety in their inner hearts
Following rightly-guided paths

15. O scion of the great ones who traded the world for glory
While it now weeps for you in sorrow

16. They brought you honor in al-Nu’man’s court
And so your banners flew high at his feast

17. Qais then held sway over all the clans
While Amir dragged behind him shame and disgrace

18. And when chaos engulfed the faith you stood
And corrected the flaws that had emerged

19. With true loyalty, pure of heart and deed
Did you defend it, heedless of past quarrels,

20. Upholding religion and world affairs alike
To earn merit and reward when the envoys come

21. If only Faisal had known, before he passed,
That you were of his loins, what longevity you’d attain!

22. You rose like a radiant sun over the horizon
Though still circling in its orbit’s curve

23. You set right for the people their affairs, worldly and spiritual
And they awoke to find safety and tranquility

24. You guided the ignorant with knowledge
Honored the virtuous with favor

25. And forgave the sinners their trespasses
Justice that leaves the mounts free of saddle and pack

26. Look upon him, and you will find in his virtues
Ample proof, though mouths and ears reject it

27. Noble qualities none ascribed to another
You were the epitome of all that’s sublime

28. Listen closely, people of these times, I speak without bias
Not hiding self-interest or personal gain

29. I guarantee one who knows not his own worth
An hour that sunders bone from tendon

30. Beware the lion, if provoked his roar
Hurls boulders down from the mountain’s height

31. When furious, the sea of death froths and foams
Baring fangs and claws without relent

32. Verily your formidable foe is relentless
Brooking no compromise or deputized emissary

33. No task is hard when girded with resolve
Heeding nor weakness neither pleadings to relent

34. I wonder, is there one who hears my counsel
Or do I blow upon dead embers, futilely stoking their dying flames?

35. Who does not weigh his remaining years against those passed
Is rash, reckless and doomed to fail

36. How many have pulled tight the knot of enmity
Only to be left defeated and abandoned!

37. Do not let his clemency trick the foolish
If they provoke him, he will serve them poisoned honey

38. A man’s trespass cannot be mentioned daily
As though to say, “My she-camel is not to blame, nor my stud camel”

39. Take what his nature freely gives you
And say not to one who refuses it: “Shame on you!”

40. O peerless one in all the world
In your time or in ages past

41. Though I prolong my praises of you I admit my limits
For who on earth can reach the heavens' vault?

42. If I dress you in fine apparel of poetry
You were more resplendent before it

43. Verse but gives respite to the noble soul
Shaking them like wine does the winded drinker

44. A man lives on if his achievements survive
Recited in melodious verse and weighty prose

45. You are like rain, towering over every mound
Settling far-reaching plains with beneficence

46. Take it, as prose arranged like joined pearls
Fragments unfired, unrefined

47. Polished rhymes that stir the souls of reciters
Articulate, flawless, void of defect

48. If you accept it, none can match its worth
But you overlook all flaws, as is your noble way

49. And may God grant you length of days from our lifetimes
In continued comfort and everlasting grace

50. Abiding, to safeguard religion and world
With imminent victory, in honor and respite

51. Delighting in your sweet children, joyful
With family, in-laws, siblings and progeny alike

52. You are our only pride and joy
Our prize, defended and protected

53. Then blessings upon the Guide whose law superseded
All creeds and faiths revealed afore

54. Muhammad, best of all who tread upon this earth
And his family and companions, the earliest and the latter ones
