Has little food in special containers

6. Your road is long but your two horses will get you there
Gray steeds racing through the night

7. Were it not for their bridles outpacing the wind and lightning
They would charge like the flowing tide

8. Watch for them on the day the峰s loom large
And think not the horses can overtake them

9. But you just follow the road bending
And at night, let not your sleep be deep

10. Beware of the thorns of doubt in the wilderness
You see, o lad, your road is long

11. And after three or four伊days
Beware, in the heat of poisons, of wearing yourself out

12. O Tareeshi, listen well to my words
Remember my behests, o lad, and be cunning

13. First, I enjoin you not to trust the wilderness
Keep your eyes on the horizon scanning

14. And at night, keep your thoughts in your hearing
For hearing, not seeing, is guide in the darkness

15. Not less than what God ordains will protect you
So steel your resolve, do not be abject

17. For letting me extend your glory by parting

18. After four days you will be back in our pasturelands
The road is short and needs no guide

Where they stay with no day of departure

20. Greet them, o lad, each and every one
And convey my greetings, do not fail

Say truly, the exile was long

22. O Shawareb, elders of the mountain in our country
The tiger lives on while they are outcast and abject

23. Greet them, o lad, each and every one
Echo back the greetings, how beautiful

24. You must pass through Yozghaad on the road
Where there are lions among the men roaring

25. O Shawareb Peak, dark bearded elders
Who exceeded in greed and coveting

26. Greet them, o lad, each and every one
While your humility, o lad, bears you on

27. After seven or eight days
You will lodge with the Kurds

28. With the lions who envy your horses
None of them is stinting with food

29. Single out Hamad son of Tay with bounty
And Khalafah conqueror, guide of lands

30. O Shawareb quarter that hosts them
None of them are emaciated men

31. The Bani Qais on the day of battle
Charge the foe—you will find no better host

32. With their square banners, how much rubbish they stirred up
As the Bani Hajez dispersed it with shouting

33. When their storage pits brimmed over, the granaries burst
Rations measured out by the bushel

34. From their abodes, how many a starving soul was sated
In prosperity without a year of dearth

35. They give woven garments beyond price
Even if the envious called it lavish excess

36. My tears mingled with blood and clotted
Down cheeks ever streaming

37. For them and others from our lands
Strange marvels and terrible horrors

38. My consolation for a heart that drank their loss
Wounded among hearts not sickly

39. What exacerbated the ruin of our lands
May God ease their roads

40. After they left, the homes崩 clay but not clay
At night, you hear the girls wailing

41. I never thought its fires extinguished
The hollow of ribs feeds its flames

42. O Tareeshi, greet them every one
And repeat my greetings, conscience will guide you

43. From Qaysariya across the open plain
Your road, o lad, remains long

44. And when you reach Diyar Bakr then
Halt your steed, o lad, and lodge

45. And from there to the Arabs settled around it
Speak judiciously, do not be brusque

46. Including Hama and Homs, you must pass them
Greet the lands of Syria courteously

47. Fragrant breezes that revive the soul and senses
Will heal you if you are sickly and infirm

48. From the rising of Libra and the stars in the heavens
Whose rising in Syria is like Canopus shining

49. Your road passes by its slopes and hollows
Flooded by the Jayid torrents

50. Hauran's freshwater pools will show themselves before your eyes
You gaze on its peaks like the Nile

51. At noon when the sun occupies the dome of the sky
Your brother, venerable Shaykha the Bountiful, will host you

52. How plentiful, o raider of the lofty place, brother of Shaykha
His line is the longest of lines

53. Tether your humility and skirt the bank next to him
And you will rest in a garden even if the years render it desolate

54. As for the others from our lands
There are none who shoulder burdens like them

55. Or the helpless people with meager portion
The deaf cannot walk without a guide

56. Swords of Bali with honorable lineage the red does not show itself
Even if it was an Indian sword polished smooth

57. If the great ones are at peace, the small ones will be at peace
The mighty will inevitably become abject

58. I gave good advice and communicated my speech meaningfully
I am no guide for the blind of heart

59. Today my talk is not sincere advice
My advice went forward when speech carried

60. When it was like onions piled on rubble
Scum of men disbanded

61. The blind ones made it a plaything until it was destroyed
Hoping for restoration from paltry men

62. They attacked its fortress and felled its wolf
And it became a pond for elephants after us

63. And I am not blaming the sweetwater pools of Hawran
Or giving reasons and making excuses for it

My cares are only to see them and gladden my heart

65. In them are bones of ones most precious
My thoughts find rest if my eyes see them

66. Without them, I have no companion or match
You see me proud among the strangers

67. Never does my soul incline to the ascetic
If the envious rejoice and gloat over our situation

68. Days are lodgers, departure inevitable
Days gestate and days give birth

69. Like females of ostriches brooding
And I conclude my words with prayers upon the Prophet

70. Who will intercede for us against violence and torment
