7. My head sprouted white hair, and my strength from ordeals grew,
And my back, bent it worry and accustomed to misfortune.

8. Sickly, complaining, emaciated from the desolation of estrangement,
And from seeing visitors, my body disappeared.

9. Were it not for my eyes, my greeters would not see me,
From how much the conscience endured dissolution.

10. Languishing in passion, I complain of distance and aloofness,
And I have an illness that has tired doctors.

11. I treated it with fire, I did not comfort it,
And I could not find a door to its healing.

12. And whoever saw me said it is no use,
This boy, his star has disappeared.

13. O my beauty, none before us,
And none like me hit by perfect pleasure.

14. And none from the healer of separation and hardship,
And none burned by the torment of separation.

15. And no mother when her fetus trembles,
And no bereaved if they shed flowing tears.

16. My reason overflowed from the fervor of the heart and hallucinations,
My mind tomorrow will be gone and my sanity disappeared.

17. O you who knows, o you who knows in our time,
The like of this happened, so inform the elders.

18. Time betrayed the young man, deceitful traitor,
Dead from being called the turning of fate.

19. O believers, beware of time,
The days pass and time changes.

20. The days make you drink bitterness after drinking comfort and wine,
The days impregnate the maiden against her will.

21. The days gossip and play,
And tyrannize the youth and elders.

22. The days play with sultans and ministers,
The days claim rocks are dust.

23. If the days inclined towards the graves they would shake them,
And whoever resisted the days saw his desire disappear.

24. I entrust my affairs to them, perhaps God will release us,
From them and open doors for all.

25. After this, O fire of my heart, ignite
And bring meanings and an answer to the discourse.

26. The pen went on writing rhymes I picked
From the parchment paper Cloud's Tail.

27. It shows what my heart felt of ordeals,
And explains worries like clouds over plateaus.

28. O you who passes me, carry my message
On the back of a slender, fast riding camel.

29. Hasten, hardship of travel, and beware of speed,
Your secret destination, faster than a spindle.

30. And where did God guide you, messenger of tidings,
And one who cannot reach the dear and disappeared.

31. Whoever divided us, however long his bracelet,
Would that it remain in ruins and wreckage.

32. Slaughter Suhail and spur Al Nathouk to speed,
You’ll see it pass the road, O pruner.

33. After four days when you arrive, I will ring
The guest bell, the like of us absent.

34. Greet them, O my messenger, all of them,
Echo my greetings hundreds, hundreds, writings.

35. The morning there, set your face shining,
And your right hand for pulling the ropes.

36. Beware tarrying with them, you might trust their situation,
Beware, the steps of men are wolves.

37. Your road villages and the faces of their people,
Among them after al-Narboo springs and pits.

38. Greet them, O messenger, like others,
And take the path of space and expanse.

39. After six and four, at Qaisariya,
You’ll find youths like lions of the forest.

40. A quarter at al-Jawdat, their elders built their huts,
It brought you near them, of fat and marrow.

41. Convey my greetings to all the loved ones,
Hundreds of fat and marrow.

42. Your road at al Shahba, the Arabs settle it
And below, only meadows and lavender.

43. Homs and Hama, the road you must pass,
And your destination, Damascus absent.

44. Satisfied in Damascus, the Levant, moor your love,
You have arrived well, O student.

45. If you are detained in the Levant, convey my regards,
You’ll find Yahya like a green branch.

46. Greet the delight of my eyes, Abu Hassan,
In my heart, hundreds of thousands calculations.

47. O brother, your concern is the bird of power and strength,
While I am doubtful about others, you see.

48. While I doubt others healers of worry,
O brother, I have no companions but you.

49. O brother, your concern is white hair and beard,
And everyday my heart tastes a thousand kinds of torment.

50. Everyday my heart injustice and woe bite me,
I suffer as Quraish's camel suffered.

51. And I always imagine you as if before me,
As if your absence from us never happened.

52. As if your absence obvious to my eyes and thoughts,
And your image imprinted on my conscience, a veil.

53. My eyes spill tears from the fervor of passion,
From my cheek its torrent carved channels.

54. From atop my cheek the tears and blood drip,
On a cheek worn by the injustice of time and grew youthful.

55. A vow upon me, if time brings us back together,
I will slaughter for God's sake as many camels as possible.

56. And adorn the despised house after us,
And say my life in your presence is sweet.

57. And I visit you specifically in Hittin,
And hold a banquet for the settled and bedouin.

58. And if the Lord of the Throne divided us,
Then my hopes, O my beloved, failed.

59. I have no means but crying and hallucinating,
And for your image, my heart you see it melted.

60. Patience, beautiful is patience, sweeter than honey,
Time, O pillar, of trials and wonders.

61. Time, O pillar, of diverse wonders,
God makes for salvation reasons.

62. By God, by He who created earth and heaven,
The Living, O Worshipped, O Bestower.

63. O Raiser of the seven mighty mountains,
With no pillars or boards of wood.

64. O Helper of the oppressed, O Hearer of prayer,
O He whose will, nothing can veil.

65. O Spreader of the earth over the water and air,
And Sender of clouds from within heaped clouds.

66. Relieve him who expects none but Your mercy,
And open for us from Your generosity’s sea, a door.

67. And unite all the kin, O Creator of beings,
For the right of the Prophet and the four caliphs.

68. We are scattered, we have none but Your mercy,
We came to the lands of the Turks as foreigners.

69. And conclude my words with prayers upon the Prophet,
Who regulates the order of existence precisely.

70. Conclude for us with good, my master and protector,
And make our nights a new moon.
