1. A suffering heart sang with meaning,
My tears flowed over my cheeks,

2. My eyes shed tears of sorrow,
Pouring down my sunken cheeks.

3. Like the creaking of a waterwheel its groan is heard,
And its flow is constant over the long course.

4. The tears of my eyes have wounded my eyelids out of crying,
Whose downpour on my cheeks is copious.

5. O eye, sleep and rest, o troubler,
Your light has dimmed and your face darkened.

6. Why have you made me painfully suffering,
While your tears flow constantly?

7. I fear all the light will go away,
And you will become like a sack full of tears in the house.

8. The eye answered me from a tear of sorrow,
And said: Young man, remember me over the course.

9. Do not wail like a confined pigeon,
And cry like the raven did constantly.

10. It is not all my fault,
See, the heart has decided to moan.

11. I have told the pained heart, and blamed it
With speech like bitter patience.

12. O heart, restrain the eye from crying,
If the eye's light goes away, how can it be lit again?

13. O heart, end the eye's tear of sorrow,
Obey my words and destroy the moaning.

14. The heart replied: My fire is blazing,
With sparks between my liver and ribs.

15. O heart, o afflicted, o miserable with distance, relieve us
Of my torment, you see, and over barren land, more barren land.

16. Tell me of your agony in your suffering from estrangement,
While the arrow of estrangement I have no control over.

17. Distance has sapped my strength and stamina,
And called for the destruction of lamentations.

18. Whoever has tasted the arrow of distance, estrangement and abandonment,
My patience has emptied out from its intensity and I am perplexed.

19. I have told the generous eye to cease flowing,
And let your tears run down your cheeks in daylight.

20. O heart, enough of anguish, crying and weeping,
And enough of my flames in the darkness and sparks.

21. My blazing fire, and my tears that have flowed
Have quenched me with cups of torment time and again.

22. If I plead to you by God, o heart, you will stop,
End my suffering from you, the torment that turns me dizzy.

23. O miserable, o abandoned by distance, relieve us,
Perhaps your grief will clear up with wellness.

24. And be patient, perhaps patience is coupled with relief,
And not every afflicted one can handle tribulation with patience.

25. I, the heart, tell you: bear my anguish,
And forget the deceit of our times, the betrayer.

26. If it were not for the changing of fate I would not have blamed it,
And there would be no echo of tumult inside me.

27. Leave your blame on the time that has passed,
Which gave us all bitter aloe to drink, and bitterness.

28. And watch the changing nights’ betrayals,
And blame the stern, mutilating times.

29. I have told the pained heart and blamed it:
Enough of what has happened and what came to be.

30. O eye, o slick times, o our deceitful fate,
O time, o inauspicious, o confusing.

31. O time, how much evil you have shown us!
You have made even the fortunate feel lowly.

32. You have made us all into cowards,
Who have fled to the monasteries for fear.

33. O time, how you have betrayed us after oaths!
And whoever trusted you, their mind has flown away.

34. O time, you only care about graying hair and beards,
And you never considered your own fire a greater fire.

35. O time, you only care about weakening powers,
O time, you have called for the destruction of pillars.

36. O time, enough of our torment that has passed,
And what has transpired was never said or done.

37. Are you not ashamed to betray those you have given?
And every day you are faithless to people.

38. You are a mirage, a fraud,
Whoever has little mind and sees your form, it will fly away.

39. And whoever watches what your stories have passed,
Will realize you are truly deceitful.

40. Time answered me right away in haste:
Tell me, you insolent one, show manners!

41. I know you are a slave, commanded and standing,
Those nights are predestined, quantified.

42. Be patient, perhaps patience is coupled with relief,
And not every afflicted one can handle tribulation with patience.

43. If you do not have patience, your life will waste away in sorrow,
And you will have no reward except misery and disgrace.

44. No creature is content with God's decree,
So be patient with the injustice of time, even if it is unjust.

45. God's affairs proceed according to destiny,
And what is beyond it perplexes the enlightened mind.

46. There is no protection from what God decrees,
Whoever's mind is narrowed by tribulations is perplexed.

47. Whoever has experienced days will toss them aside,
And whoever has experienced things becomes knowledgeable.

48. Days are like the honey of bees,
And days are like bitter aloe.

49. Days give man, but with misery,
And they said if it clears up it will betray.

50. Days are fickle, their evil is enough for you,
Days are the wheel of passion, endlessly turning.

51. Days give you the bitterness of colocynth
After having given you the milk of youth.

52. Days become pregnant and days give birth,
And their children are black and white, free.

53. Days have scheduled afflictions in their periods,
How often they have shaken the pride of great kings!

54. Days, you drink honey and nectar from them,
And days whose springs are ruin and turbidity.

55. Days, you see whoever learns from them
Will regret it, and their crop will not fruit with planting.

56. Days, if they turned on the highest hillocks,
Inevitably they will pass and turn to dust.

57. Inevitably it will call them easy from tribulation,
Even if it were bigger than Mount Sinjar.

58. Whoever contends with days is defeated and loses,
Even if his army were a massive horde.

59. There is no diminishment of anxiety and tribulation,
And not every man can handle tribulation with patience.

60. When I heard all the advice,
I returned the foolish mind to consciousness

61. And said: This is advice, o dweller of highness,
Today the deeds of the enlightened ones are wise.

62. Mind, tell me: consult the heart,
Perhaps patience can be achieved by remembering.

63. O misery, this is not our homeland,
And we have no lasting home in the land of Turks.

64. Why do you disrupt, lost of guidance and religion,
And confused by the injustice of the days of time?

65. O misery, consult today in the position of tribulation,
A time of contentment, o ripe fruit of consciousness.

66. The heart referred the consultation back to the mind and was satisfied,
While we all came to it seeking revenge.

67. O my Lord, hear the meaning of their words,
And marvel at what they have quickly discussed.

68. The heart said: My illness of love,
In its folds the wisdom of the wise was perplexed and confused.

69. And the mind said: I was amazed by the lack of happiness,
And a veil came over all sense.

70. I have lost my thoughts between my mind and guide,
And I have known that I have no power over destiny.

71. O illness in the heart's attachment and love,
A wound from which deeds are evil sparks!

72. It has grown and eyes have opened around it,
But no medicine for healing or fire has helped it.

73. Every time I have hoped and said it will heal,
I come to find its blood boiling.

74. I treated it for two years without benefit,
And in the third year it flared up in there.

75. And still it does not accept treatment that may benefit it,
This tribulation and the most intense pain.

76. I fear it may destroy the whole body,
And its demise will befall us all.

77. And it will sleep without us after us,
And depart after not being pardoned or forgiven.

78. Its resting place will be widened in the absence of its predators,
And its judge will be the hyena and rat.

79. Patience is most beautiful, patience is sweeter than honey,
Your Lord is generous, not neglectful.

80. After this, O fire of my heart, ignite
And bring upon the changing of time sparks.

81. The pen has come to imprint rhymes I have harvested
Onto sheets of paper, freely flowing.

82. Revealing what my heart has endured of estrangement,
And depicting its meanings in wells of ink.

83. O you who rides from us on a mare
Of original stock, from a line of noble Arabian horses.

84. A chestnut who runs across the horizon, tested,
Its color is like that of a red deer.

85. It pulls the saddle blanket which if it saw a person from its place would fly away,
Not stubborn when first being saddled or accustomed to the bridle.

86. Nor a female hawk glancing greedily for fledglings with desire
And little ones in the nests.

87. God guided you, o delightful one of sorrow,
Mount it and set forth on the back of the mare and depart.

88. With a finely worked bridle of myrtle, safe from defects,
Its wood is reddish like carnelian.

89. Inlaid with gold studs gleaming, dazzling sights,
Adorned and braided with expensive silk.

90. And a cloak of soft fabric, expensive weaving,
Lined with ostrich feathers, soaring.

The intelligent one came out, whose presence and purity

92. Did the work of ambition for her longing insistently.
The partridges are crows strayed from their path

93. In the morning when they left the house.
And put in your supplies what befits you,

94. That no one rides, O son, the fire.
Your path is long, though easy for you to reach it,

95. If not for its reins you would have flown like a bird and departed.
I bid you farewell in God, my Lord and Creator,

96. And He protects you for the Persian and the builder.
Do not forget me in longing after counting me like

97. Saad who sailed into the open sea and departed.
From Constantinople he extended your power, its separation,

98. I wish it remains ruined and destroyed.
Over Ankara along with Sungurlu and its landscapes,

99. Over Kayseri and the road, lined.
Over Adana and Kahramanmaraş, your place of descent,

100. Over Maridin and Diyarbakır, weep.
Over Aleppo the praised, the Arabs feel tranquility in it,

101. Beyond it only the desert and Sinjar.
Hama and Homs of Damascus you must visit,

102. Al-Faheh whose length compares to Sinjar.
Greet Damascus of Greater Syria and convey our greetings,

103. I wish the towns of al-Sham prosperity.
And from there towards Houran guide your course,

104. To our country, mighty are its migrants, if neighbors.
Pass by the abode of Mahin after us,

105. O our home, home of misery, o home!
And complain to it, O messengers, about me and say to it:

106. I want to see you, I am suffering from perils.
O home, I want to see you wearing a dress of sorrow

107. After you wore silk brocade.
O home, I want to see you empty of dwellings and rooms

108. After you were a shrine for people.
O home, I want to see you destroyed without bats

109. Except an owl hooting at you and the rat.
O home, after carpets and furnishings,

110. I see your furnishings are of rot and dust.
O home, after lanterns and light,

111. I see you in darkness, frightening visitors.
O home, you have become a den for spongers

112. After you were the abode of the brilliant.
O home, you were once filled side to side,

113. Like the marketplace in the evening when it turns.
With help I see you in ruins, o troubler,

114. And the images of your walls are like the images of Akkar.
A sandy ruin where no inheritor embraces you,

115. Or one who drank you like other homes.
It replied and said: Who can inform me of our ruin?

116. Who are you, bringer of news?
I see in you winds that enliven the heart and inner self,

117. Perhaps the winds of the fortunate have cleared up.
You are probably one of the horses, o delightful sorrow,

118. And perhaps you will gladden the grieved one with news.
Come closer, perhaps the wind will rip and I will smell

119. Wisdoms from you that clarify sorrows.
Welcome, messenger of loved ones, and hello!

120. My love for your place of descent is equal to those who have journeyed.
O brother teach me, o brother tell me,

121. O brother, my mind has flown away from my head.
I spoke to it, o home, by God here I am

122. With a story and news for your side.
It said I want knowledge from you in a hurry,

123. You see, patience in me does not leave seeds.
I said to it: O home, sleep and rest,

124. You see time, how often betrayed and turbid.
You see them living well and provisioned from their share,

125. And my knowledge of them in the land of Turks is civilization.
Except your concern is graying of hair and beards,

126. And no fire other than yours has burned them.
Perhaps God will make them prevail, and we will all rejoice,

127. And its stories will narrate tales and news.
And I conclude my words with prayers upon the Prophet,

128. He will intercede for us from terror and difficulties.
