1. Yathrib is my home, I yearn for Yathrib
It is a playground for my hopes
١. يثربٌ داري أهذي يثرب
في حماها للأماني ملعبُ
2. A blessed land where the finest resided
It is a shelter for the soul and the heart
٢. بقعة طابت فطاب الأطيب
إنها للروح والقلب أب
3. To the protected sanctuary, to
The Ansar’s sanctuary
٣. إلى الحمى المكنون إلى
حمى الأنصار
4. Righteous angels
Yet fierce like fire
٤. ملائكٌ أبرار
لكنهم كالنار
5. Who defend with the sword the guests among them
And the sword can do what fire cannot
٥. يحمون بالسيف ارواح المطيف بهم
والسيف يصنع ما لا تصنع النار
6. A wondrous figure in his features
And bees gathering nectar from the meadow’s blooms
٦. طيف غريبٌ في شمائله
والنحل من زهرات الروض يشتارُ

Dismount here, O youth, for the stay there was too confined
٨. أهذه يثرب
إنزل هنا يا فتىً ضاق المقام به
9. In a country its people in Allah forsook
Do not malign a country which hosted me
٩. في بلدةٍ هجرها في اللَه وصلان
لا تشتموا بلداً أشقيت مهجتهُ
10. In my estrangement from it, it was glad and grieved
Muhammad you are
١٠. بغربتي عنه وهو مسرور وحزنان
محمدٌ أنت
11. I say I am Muhammad
And you praise a household filled with polytheists
١١. أقول إني محمد
وتمدح داراً باء بالشرك أهلها
12. Who at nightfall and dawn are misguided and failing
What do I say?
١٢. فأضحوا وأمسوا في ضلال وخسران
أقول ماذا أقول
13. What do you say?
I say I deserted the house steadfast
١٣. تقول ماذا تقول
أقول إني هجرت الدار معتصماً
14. With patience, and patience is relief for sorrows
I deserted it while my heart cringed
١٤. بالصبر والصبرُ للأحزان ترياق
هجرتها وفؤادي من لواعجه
15. As sorrow stirred tumultuously within sorrows
Muhammad you are
١٥. في ثورة الحزن بالأحزان دفاق
محمدٌ أنت
16. I say I am Muhammad
And you associate the Almighty with Ḥujayrah
١٦. أقول إني محمد
وتشرك باللَه العظيم حجَيرةً
17. Where mice and rats are part of its household
Muhammad you are
١٧. بها السوس والجرذان من أهلها أهل
محمدٌ أنت
18. I am the Prophet Muhammad
Are you a polytheist?
١٨. أنا النبيّ محمد
أمشركٌ أنت
19. I am not of them
Why does Mecca allure you, O man
١٩. ما كنتُ بالمشرك
ما بال مكة تستهويك يا رجلاً
20. Who has in Allah helpers and confidants?
In Mecca was the revelation, so forgive a man
٢٠. له إلى اللَه أنصارٌ وخلّان
بمكة كان الوحي فلتعذروا فتىً
21. Who by those sanctuaries was tutored in the Quran
What do you say?
٢١. له عند هاتيك المناسك قرآن
ماذا تقول
22. What do you say?
I almost forget I roam aimlessly
٢٢. ماذا تقول
أكاد أجهل أني هائمٌ أبداً
23. In an oasis that was heart’s sacrifice
The abode of my forefathers and cradle of my youth
٢٣. بواحة ذبحها للقلب قربان
معاهد آبائي ومهد صبابتي
24. Where affection for me had friends
If I say “This house,” emotions would say
٢٤. ومشرع حب كان لي فيه أخدان
إذا قلت هذه الدار قالت عواطف
25. That I am a stranger perplexed in dwellings
O land of Yathrib, long has our stay been
٢٥. بأني غريب في المنازل حيران
يا دار يثرب قد طال المقام بنا
26. While I have in Mecca foreigners and neighbors
Our days are years
٢٦. ولي بمكة أجانب وجيران
أيامنا أعوام
27. Our dreams misgivings
We must return home again
٢٧. أحلامنا أوهام
لا بدّ من رجعة للبيت ثانيةً
28. For the crags now seem to me meadows
He who enjoys God’s safety, his goal
٢٨. إن الصخور بدت لي وهي أزهار
إن الذي في أمان اللَه غايتهُ
29. Is feared by the nights and the flames
٢٩. تخاف منه الدياجي السود والنار
