1. Homes once pleasing to the eye and heart
Have become mere fantasies in my soul

2. I once loved them, but gave up that love
For loving other than God is a sin

3. Farewell, O abode, though my weeping heart
Bids you adieu, and my eyes shed their gleam

4. Your memories are flowers of spring
Some blue, some white, though they are sins

5. I will destroy the throne of Lat, ere we part
Lat and Uzza - their rule shall be no more

6. The sorcerers spin their webs to divide
But the wise see through their evil lore

7. Do their idols seek rule over me?
They slumber, locked in eternal death

8. I renounce all Islam, if I spare them
As the steed tramples the meadow's breadth

9. If my people ask, where are my folk?
I know - I have no clan, no kin

10. I stand alone, with my soul and faith
No uncle here, in these lands to win

11. I shall return one day, with tears that pour
Fired by a soul holding high its flame

12. When I return, triumphant and great
My soul brimming with glory and fame

13. What does time say?
It says I shall return

16. Dread my eternity in afterlife's advance
One day I may return - will I come back?

When the world crosses me, I cross it too

19. All crossed find the hateful a bitter foe
When terrors call me, I have their cure

20. For my soul holds perils, horrors and woe
My soul is armored, my will a citadel

21. My soul slays the horrors of adversity
To the white chambers, a thousand greetings

22. Where the sands were kinder than petals to me
They bid me farewell, where I knew the sands

23. Gentler to my side than leaves of roses
Speak, O riders, that I go

24. To Yathrib - nay, to God I close
We have lands where, though far,

25. Noble hearts keep faith's troth
My soul whispers to them over the miles

26. For the noble's heart answers his brother's
I had power to stay in Mecca

27. And live a life of ease and grace
Had I willed, her throne was mine

28. Yet Mecca today is a throneless place
Minds and dreams were mine to steer

29. Had I sought madness in wanton ways
But revelation, decisive, I heard

30. To shun politics and power plays
Mecca, a thousand greetings I cry

31. Mecca, a thousand loves abide
O abode of rapture in dreamy life

32. You allow both infidel and faithful inside
The revelation tells I shall return

33. To the holy dew from the breath of God
Bowing and prostrating to Allah

34. I, the Creator, compose hymns lauding
